Careless truck drivers can cause huge amounts of property loss or seriously hurt people nearby.
Local news for Chicago reported on a truck that crashed into a building in Elk Grove Village and caused a large amount of damage.
Part of building collapses after a semi truck drives into the structure
Emergency crews and a rescue helicopter responded to the scene early on a Monday morning. An ambulance was seen next to the building, but at the time of the report, Elk Grove Police stated that they were unsure if anyone inside was harmed.
Footage from the scene showed a large semi truck that had sustained severe damage near the intersections of Lively Boulevard and Landmeier Road. It also appeared that an entire wall on the side of the building was missing after it collapsed from the impact.
The Elk Grove Village area is on the northwest side of Chicago, next to O’Hare International Airport. Authorities kept Landmeier Road between Tonne Road and Busse Road closed for several hours while the investigation took place, which caused traffic delays. The initial cause of the accident was unknown.
The serious nature of losing a home or a business to a truck accident
Truck accidents that cause property damage often cause significant problems for owners due to the size and weight of the vehicles. The victim may have to shut down a business or lose their home entirely after a collision. While insurance coverage for a business or residence may cover some of these losses, it is best to talk to a lawyer after a serious crash. A civil lawsuit will allow the victim to present proof of all of their losses and file a lawsuit that attempts to make the person or business at fault pay for everything.
Lawsuits against the trucking business
Even though an individual driver may have caused the accident, a trucking business will be named as a defendant in the lawsuit in addition to the individual driver. This is because businesses are liable for the actions of all of their employers while they are actively working. In the case of businesses that deal with transportation and trucking, this means that they will generally be responsible for any accidents that their drivers cause. Accident lawyers know that it is usually more beneficial to sue the company rather than an individual, as the victim is more likely to actually get paid through the courts if a settlement or verdict finds a business at fault.
