NOTE: A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of this Cookbook will go to the Omak Food Bank.
This is an old video that I happen to love. I love it because it shows some of my wonderful Ohana, my family, many of whom taught me that Sharing Aloha through cooking bonds a family closer together.
I love cooking. Thanks to my wonderful Multicultural/Multiracial Ohana, my family, I’ve been blessed with many who taught me how sharing Aloha through cooking bonds a family together.
I get hundreds of requests every month for recipes I cook, photograph or video at home and share. No joke… and I am flattered. For those who know me, you know that I love cooking the delicious food, snacks and treats that have been passed down for generations in my Ohana (family).
I’ve always wanted to do a cookbook, but being restricted by living on a very tight budget with my limited disability income and costly prescriptions, I have no choice raise funds, while keeping costs down and self publishing my first (in, hopefully a series) large format cookbook (9 inches by 12 inches), entitled Serving Aloha.
I will self publish with the commitment to donate a percentage of the proceeds from selling this book to the Omak Food Bank.
My goal for this first cookbook is to have roughly 100 to 160 pages (96 to 152 actual pages, because of how pages are bundled) with, at least, 45 to 60 simple recipes of Ohana Favorites that anyone can easily cook at home, and includes some great tips on cooking skills and resources for where to get those special ingredients.
I already have the recipes to include and have created a basic outline for how Iʻll divvy up the recipes and photos to fit within my desired page count. Iʻll also be including some short stories to share that go with some of the recipes. I know that I want to dedicate one double page spread per recipe, with photo/s on the left and the recipe on the right. I also plan on uploading videos to coincide with each recipe, which I plan to make available after my cookbook is published for to folks who purchase it.
The crowdfunding effort will launch on both Facebook and Kickstarter to raise the funds needed to cover the expense of self publishing that Iʻve been quoted. Iʻm looking to raise $5000 on Facebook in 1 to 2 rounds of fundraising ($2500 for each round), and the additional $15000 needed on Kickstarter during 2 rounds of campaigns ($7500 for each round). The funds raised will cover the costs of an editor, photographer, and graphic artist for editing, photography, cover design and layout, as well as the International Standard Book Number (ISBN), printing, and marketing costs.
Anyone who enjoys cooking with lots of flavor and mastering dishes from amazing ethnic cuisines that include Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Hawaiian, German, Italian, East Indian, Creole, to name a few, will love this first cookbook Iʻm working on making available.
This cookbook has been a goal of mine to do and I hope it is only the first in a series that is Serving Aloha. So, stay tuned for details to come and please share link to this fundraising effort!
Mahalo nui loa. Thank you very much… for your support and encouragement!

Most anticipated risk is not meeting the round one funding goal. I will be using social media and personal messages to my network contacts on various platforms to get the word out.
