The Easy Way is a modern perspective on a classic retro video game strategy guide. It combines a walk-through, FAQ, strategy guide, and comprehensive information source into one book. The book takes information from all the of the most credible sources and combines it with the expertise and testing methods of speed-runner and multiple video game world record holder 8-Bit Steve.
Video game strategy guides that were created during the 80’s and 90’s lacked information that has been obtained through modern technologies such as emulators. Guides and walk-throughs that exist today on Gamefaqs.com or YouTube are incomplete, inaccurate, require immense practice & reflexes, or in some cases are totally false and misleading. I found this out as I began to record and complete NES games as a part of a goal I have to complete every NES game. This frustrated me and forced me to collect and piece together all of the best and most useful information from across the internet and fill in the gaps with my own strategies and techniques.
I am now sharing all of my data and research with the world and presenting it to you in a comprehensive, organized, and easy to read format. If you want to learn how to complete the game you will not need any source of information about Friday the 13th other than what is presented in this book.
The Easy Way is intended to be a series of books that focus on difficult retro video games. The series will focus on three main points. The first is that the books will include all of the most accurate information. The second is that the books will be presented in the simplest and easiest way possible so that a gamer of any skill level or knowledge can apply the information. The third is The Easy Way walk-through section that is presented with the goal of completing the game with the easiest and least time consuming methods available straight from the experience of 8-bit Steve himself.
I loved reading strategy guides when I was a kid but one of the most annoying things I found was that they had very small text and often had terrible graphics and maps. This book will have large readable text and thoroughly labeled maps with graphics sourced from the highest quality available. This will make it easier to have the book sitting out as you play so you can quickly glance over and get the information you need.
Friday the 13th is a video game that was released in 1989 by the game publisher LJN. It is a survival horror game that takes place across three days at camp crystal lake. This game is considered to be one of the hardest games on the system and also one of the worst. The game rose again in it’s infamy when the AVGN reviewed the game on his YouTube channel in 2006.
AVGN – Friday the 13th Episode
Unlike most of the internet I think this game is a marvel for the time that it was released. The game takes place across three days, has three times of day, 6 playable characters (all with different strengths and weaknesses), multiple weapons (all with different stats), multiple different enemies, multiple areas you can explore, hidden clues, hidden items, oh and did I mention that Jason is hunting you the entire time as you explore the game and Pamela Voorhees (Jasons mother) is a hidden boss. I honestly can’t think of a more thematically accurate movie translated game on the console.
The book will printed in the highest quality available using the Hagen’s Alley industry standard. The book will be hard cover, with high gloss pages. The inside of the book will include the following:
Here are all the items that you can get with the campaign. Keep in mind that only the book will be available after the completion of this Kickstarter. All other physical items are exclusive to this project!
This artwork is custom made by the very talented Miki Ivey, a former sculptor for Disney. I am very proud and excited to have her working with me on this book. Both of the artworks are her original ideas and designs and she is also responsible for creating the mask pin. The prints will be printed on a very high quality gloss paper using the highest quality machine available to me. They will likely be sent in a rolled tube to prevent bending or tearing on shipping. The images below are sample covers. The finalized cover artwork may vary from the images presented below. You can claim this reward in the Machete Tier or the Torch Tier.
If you purchase the Torch you will not only be one of the most awesome human beings on the planet but you will receive one of every item offered in this Kickstarter. There are a few items that are exclusive to this tier that are detailed below. Since some of the items in this Tier are completely custom it is limited to only 10 backers.
Stretch goal @ $2000:If the total amount of money generated by the backers of this campaign goes over $2000 dollars then every back will receive the following additional items for free.
*REJOICE EVERYONE WHO BACKS IS GETTING THESE ITEMS!*
New Stretch goal @ $3000:
If this stretch goal is reached I will be adding more pages of content to the book itself. This content will include a more detailed breakdown for fighting Jason inside Cabins on all three days and will include additional information regarding the history and making of Friday the 13th along with some additional surprises I couldn’t fit inside the first version of the book.
Shipping books is pretty expensive, even though this book is less than 100 pages. Shipping to the USA and Canada is manageable and so all the tiers have options for shipping to those two regions. Shipping outside of North America causes the cost to spike dramatically. I have added shipping options to the “Rocks” tier so that some countries outside of the USA can purchase the book. Just be warned that the shipping costs are 4-9 times the cost of the book in some cases. Unfortunately due to these costs the other tiers will not have these additional shipping options. If you still want to purchase one of the other tiers and you are outside of North America please contact me at Eightbitsteve@Gmail.com and we can discuss shipping options but I can make no guarantees about this method.
The timelines are always challenging. Once the writing is completed it will be submitted and sent off to the printer. There is a chance that an error could happen at the printing plant and if that happens things will be sent back for corrections. This may take some time, but backers will be kept informed. We anticipate things going smoothly.
