Music has always been a part of my life.
I grew up in Austin, Texas, the live music capital of the world, with some of my earliest memories being going to concerts on my dad’s shoulders and singing along to CDs in the car. Since then, I’ve taught myself how to play the acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass, ukulele, flute, piano, and the mandolin.
I am 19 now, and have been song-writing for the past five years or so. I currently attend Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ where I am studying Environmental Sciences with an emphasis in Environmental Communications. While I enjoy making music, I had always considered being a musician and making a record to be unrealistic and impractical, until the serendipitous opportunity to actually record became a reality.
It rooted from one of the lead singers of the local band Tow’rs hearing me sing in church and offering to record a song of mine for free in his make-shift shed-turned-recording studio. Within a month, a song I had written years ago with no expectations of going anywhere had been carefully recorded, mixed, and mastered. I was both surprised and amazed with how well it turned out. After recording one song, I knew I couldn’t just stop there.
Since then, I’ve continued to work with Kyle Miller of Lore Audio Provisions, and have been able to record three other songs. The process, while super fun, has been rather slow and gradual with regards to my money availability as an out-of-state college student. Your gifts and contributions would go towards allowing me to finish making this album and putting out music that has been written over the course of the past four-ish years of my life. I have songs about moving away from home, my time as a political canvasser, back-packing in the San Francisco Peaks, learning how to love myself, and just about everything in between.
For me, my music is where I feel the most seen and heard. It is my safe place where I can go and be allowed to participate in as nothing but authentically myself. It’s an honest display of my experiences, thoughts, and feelings that I don’t have to change because they’re mine. Being able to turn that into an art form that people can listen to and choose to experience second hand has been so rewarding, and allows me to show people who I am without being interrupted or ignored.
If funded, I hope to be able to put out this album sometime this spring. I am so excited to be able to share these songs. They reflect so many seasons of my life, and I can’t wait to finally have them out there in the world. Thank you for all the support, whether that be financially or otherwise, it is well appreciated :)
With gratitude,
Sierra Bryan
A huge risk for me is being able to fully fund this project, considering that half of music projects through kickstarter do not meet their goal.
