***FULLY FUNDED – TWO STRETCH GOALS UNLOCKED***
Hey! Welcome to the Kickstarter page for Milky #1-3! ?
The last Milky Kickstarter campaign was an out-of-this-world experience and saw double the number of backers than the first! We also got some lovely reviews (more below) and found ourselves on a couple of best of 2019 lists (Pipedream Comics & A Place To Hang Your Cape’s Top 50 Indie Comics of the Year at #14, and Soda and Telepaths’ Best Comic Book Releases as the editor’s pick for best minor title). ??
Now we can’t wait to get the action-packed third issue of our story into the hands of Milky fans – and hopefully draw in a few newcomers too!
This is your chance to get early access to the third issue and grab a red-hot, Kickstarter exclusive, single-issue print copy (plus some cool rewards we think you’ll dig), before the folks at Markosia go ahead and publish the complete Milky #1-4 in a lovely bound book that you’ll be able to buy off Amazon and Comixology.
We’re proud to have attracted readers from all over the world and want to make sure no one feels left out by offering low shipping fees, from €2 in the UK and Europe and €3 in the US and rest of the world (depending on reward weight). ??
But we’re probably getting ahead of ourselves… Let’s just dive into it, shall we? ?
Is it worth parting with your hard-earned cash to back this comic book? Well, just ask yourself if you enjoy…
✔️ Fun stories like Star Wars, Shaun of the Dead and Guardians of the Galaxy.
✔️ Relatable characters suffering real-world problems in a sci-fi setting.
✔️ Opportunities to be part of the adventure with creators who want to engage with you.
✔️ Cheeky humour your grandma probably wouldn’t be cool with.
Yeah? Then stock up your milk float and strap in because you’re in for a wild ride packed with alien action, slice-of-life drama and one foul-mouthed old bitch with a shotgun… ?
We are super excited to present part three of this four-issue comic book series from writer Joshua Saxon, amazing artist Gian Fernando (The Great Wall: Last Survivor), vivid colourist DC Alonso (Disney’s Aladdin) and spectacular cover artist Unai Ortiz de Zarate (Robocop: Road Trip).
The latest issue is 22 pages of full-colour art, which has been described by critics as “visually spectacular” and “so much fun!” In fact, we’ve left the first six pages of Milky #3 below for you to enjoy! ??
PARENTAL ADVISORY: It might look cute, but Milky contains foul language, strong themes, violence and other cool stuff young kids should probably be shielded from. ?(Seriously. We’re talking f**ks, b**gers and a few controlled detonations of the C-bomb ?).
For village milkman Vikinder Singh (“Milky” to the residents of Crafton Hill), every day is a roundhouse kick to his self-esteem. He gets screamed at in the street by racist old lady Mrs Boggins, Dave the local mechanic keeps stealing from his milk float and the new SpendCo supermarket is taking his customers. ?
The best part of Milky’s day is delivering a bottle of semi-skimmed to pharmacist Lucy Bell. If only he had the confidence to tell her how he really feels…
But on the morning he decides to do exactly that, Lucy and the village women are abducted by giant, hairy-bollock aliens – led by the scariest mother frigger in the galaxy, Lord Moofu!
This gloriously evil bumhole has some proper closed-minded views on the human race, which have inspired a vile plan to pave the way for Earth’s domination. And there’s only one milkman who can stop him…
He has no powers, no armour and zero self-esteem, but Milky holds the fate of the world in his hands as he embarks on an impossible adventure to save Lucy and stop a full-on alien invasion… ?
Also thrust into the action are teen-goth genius Ghost and his unsupportive stepdad Jim – neither of whom have had any formal training in battling man-eating monsters from outer space. ?
TL;DR: Here’s the trailers from the first two issues if you prefer your plot summaries video-injected directly into your eyeballs ?:
Milky #1-3 is jam-packed with laughs, action, drama… and a proper lovable, milk-wielding hero, all wrapped up in one unmissable comic book series! ??
We were blown away when we found out we had been included on some best of lists alongside some real heavy hitters of indie comics like Killtopia, Sink and The Seven Sagas of Silverbeard ??.
On top of that, some more lovely things were said. Here they are in giant font, just in case you were worried about our egos… ?
But while we are proper pumped about all the positive feedback, we’re here to talk about getting a copy into your hands…️ ?
Try before you buy? Seems reasonable…
Here’s the first six pages of Milky #3 (nothing too spoilery here if you haven’t read Milky #1-2 yet).
Will Dave’s bollocks survive? Can Mrs Boggins learn to be more tolerant? Does Milky stand a chance against a villain that would chop his own mum’s head off?
Find out what happens next by joining us on this adventure!
Speaking of which…
Each reward is broken into two parts, the first for those who just want Milky #3 and a second bundle option for newcomers who want to catch up on issues #1-2 as well.
Check ‘em out below and choose the reward you want (if you’re on your phone, you have to scroll up to the reward section at the top ?, otherwise they’re up over there in the right-hand sidebar for laptop/desktop users?)
Our rewards are shipped in quality cardboard envelopes, bags, and backing boards to guarantee safe delivery free of dog ears – all without increasing the shipping price!
Oh, and you may have also noticed the prices are first quoted in euros. That’s because Josh lives in Madrid, Spain. US and UK prices on the reward graphic are based on Google’s currency converter, so may be slightly different at checkout.
ADD ONS: Some people are all like, “I need more than one copy! I want the guest print from the last campaign! How come there’s no coasters this time?”
Totally valid tantrums, so here’s what you do… If you want an extra issue (standard or variant) just over-pledge by €5 and drop us a message to let us know which you need.
For other add-ons (below), add the corresponding amount for the goodies you want and drop us a message so we know what to send (you can decide to update your pledge later if you want). Job done!
We’d really love to bring more backers along for the adventure this time, so we’ve gone ahead and created some stretch goals to reward fans who help spread the word with a little extra stuff. Hooray for stuff! ?
Just help us out by sharing the campaign with your pals and everyone gets more Milky goodness! ?
The artwork is complete, so we’re looking to raise funds to pay for a small print run exclusively for Kickstarter backers.
Kickstarter also takes a slice (they’ve got lights to keep on as well) and a percentage goes towards payment processing, taxes…
But comics are expensive to make, so hitting some of these stretch goals will really help pay for production costs and see if we can’t buy the writer back some of his kidneys. ?
Milky first began when Josh met Gian in a nerdy comic book forum. ??
The pair discussed a fun, sci-fi comic book script Josh had been working on. Gian hadn’t drawn a story that featured so much humour before, but Josh was sure his style would be perfect for Milky.
Gian later spotted DC’s colours on Facebook and knew we had to get him on the team.
After DC agreed to lend his vivid colours to the project, it wasn’t long before he introduced us to his friend and colleague Unai – who went on to produce three amazing covers for the series. ?
Three issues down the line and the Milky team grew, welcoming Carlos Bonardi – who delivered an incredible variant cover (get it by over-pledging €5). The Argentinian artist says it was the cartoons of the 80s that inspired him to take up a career as an illustrator.
Then finally we have Slovakian artist Martin Plsko, who contributed an awesome guest print of your favourite alien-busting milkman in action (get it as an add-on for €3)!
Keep us on your radar! Milky is on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Plus there’s a Milky website where you can sign up for Launch Day Alerts for future issues.
Hey! You made it all the way to the bottom of the page! Thanks so much for checking out our Kickstarter campaign for Milky #1-3.
We really hope you’ll join us on this adventure… ??
Previous Milky backers will know that after we hit our funding goal, the first two comics went into production and were shipped without a hitch. The art production of Milky #3 is already complete. We’ll start the process of printing and sending digital copies out to backers as soon as we have the funds (usually takes two weeks) and everyone’s details for stuff like the credits page. We have a specific printing quote from Mixam in the UK, who specialise in comic book printing, and we have a discounted rate from the post office to make sure shipping costs stay low for backers. So the only thing that could stop us now would be something like the Emperor coming back to life and being a dick to everyone in the galaxy. But even then, I’m pretty sure we’d work it out…
