EATING MYSELF is a powerful and vulnerable female exploration about food, the kitchen, and the act of nurturing ourselves within the construction of a woman’s identity in Peruvian society. A communal experience through the real task of cooking on stage while digging into the performer’s deep fight around body image and self-care, this is. A shared ritual with South American flavour, that pretends to take the audience back to our roots and question how different we are.
In July 2019 I got a Residency thanks to CASA Festival and presented a 20minutes draft of my first solo show ‘EATING MYSELF‘ at the Arcola Theatre. It was an amazing journey of collaboration with Sergio Maggiolo as director and Shane Dempsey as movement director.
One of the first venues I went to when I moved here was the Battersea Arts Centre. It was love at first sight; I remember thinking THIS IS WHERE I WANT TO BE. I’ve been now programmed by the BAC for their Homegrown Festival 2020 and we will be showing our full-length show from the 31st March to the 2nd of April 2020.
I wanted this to be a project where not only me but a bunch of outstanding creatives could collaborate in the making of a high-quality and challenging piece. An opportunity for a group of mostly emerging and immigrant artists to showcase their work and talent. So this is the…
