The Story
Hello, I’ve been gaming for years both on console and PC. Lately I’ve started to feel that current console developers Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo no longer prioritise the player choosing profit at the expense of the players experience. It is because of this why I want to develop a new next generation console that will give players the experience they deserve and as a fellow gamer who understands the needs of the gaming community I believe I can deliver a console that goes beyond this.
By reaching my goal I would be able to develop an affordable console that delivers an immersive experience. It will provide games at affordable pricing as lately games have gotten too expensive. It will push local split-screen multiplayer as this option has been lately been put aside.
I need to raise funds so that I can research and develop the initial console and the hardware/software that it will need. It is important that this takes place as we are at the cusp of great change within the gaming community with Google Stadia possibly taking the gaming community in the wrong direction. They plan to take the freedom, control and creativity away from the player. If not successful the funds will be returned to donors. I am asking for help in this venture as I am unable to gather the funds on by myself but strongly believe this needs to be done.
It’s great when people can help donate. But if you can’t donate at this time, it doesn’t mean that you can’t help. You can follow the journey at our social media page on Instagram.
What is Orbis?
Orbis is a new next generation platform that aims at fixing some of the issues taking place within the gaming industry. These issues include:
We plan to create a platform that can work for all types of gamers with the addition of top specs for hardware fanatics.
For those who are worried and keep comparing this to OUYA please do not as they are fundamentally different. OUYA was an android based platform that functioned similar to your android phone but on a TV. Orbis will be using the Orbis OS which will be a completely new operating system that is not in any way associated with the likes of Android, Microsoft or IOS. OUYA ran on the idea that it was for indie gamers and developers by an indie developer. Orbis is running on the idea that gaming has become to expensive and no longer caters to the needs of all different types of gamers. With that said Orbis will reach out to indie developers and make it easier for them to distribute games to a larger audience as they deserve the opportunity to showcase their talents. However this does not mean Orbis will prioritise only indie developers and gamers as we will be reaching out to established developers offering them the ability to showcase their latest works on a truly next generation console that can allow them to realise their visions in ways they could not before. One difference that Orbis plans to maintain throughout its time is that we will offer a certain level of quality. Unfortunately this is where OUYA fell short as there were only a collection of quality apps on the platform, we plan to avoid this through a series of tests for each application submitted for release on Orbis. This will ensure that users of our platform will only receive the highest of quality.
For those that have compared this to the Souja Box, this is also different from that as Orbis is not cheap OEM chinese tv games collection that has been repackaged with a new label.

Features
We aim to make all the games on the Orbis Console playable from a 5% download. This way players wont be forced to wait hours for games to install completely just so they can play. With games getting larger in size this will help stave off the increase in waiting time.
Orbis plans to bring the dreams of no loading times on games a step closer. We aim to cut down loading times to a minimum so that players can keep playing without losing focus due to loading screens.
Orbis OS is the operating system that will be used on the Orbis Console. It will be a simple and easy to use platform that will be designed around the gamer. It will be able to be customised so that it can be personalised to your individual gaming experience. Up to 6 accounts will be allowed on one console allowing for family’s to have their own space to play their own individual games.
Orbis will have an avatar system where each user will be able to create a miniature characters that represent who they are. These characters will be integrated into the operating system being used in some games and some applications such as for communication.
There will be a simple yet innovative communication system that allows all users to seamlessly communicate with each other for free. Users will be able to message, voice call and video chat through the internet all for free.
Different types of gamers will be able to enjoy Orbis in different ways. There will be a wider range of genres available on the platform so that people do not feel like they can’t find something that is to their taste.
If you have an idea or suggestion for a type of game or genre you would like to see brought to the Orbis Console please send a message.
Silence is the dream for consoles and we plan to bring that to reality with innovative methods to create minimal noise from the Orbis Console. It will feature a fan-less cooling system to keep internal components cool without the noise a fan creates. There will not be an optical drive as the Orbis is a truly digital console. This will remove the noise that optical drives can create.
With 6 Controllers Orbis will be able to be played by families and friends wanting to bond over a game. Many new memories will be created by all members of your friendship group or family being able to share in the experience of playing games instead of having to sit and watch one member get all the enjoyment.
Whats next?
Once funding is secured, the next steps would be to develop the initial console with the group of specialists I have found who are ready to start and then establish a collection of launch titles which will be listed here and on the Orbis website once they have been selected.
What will be made?
A prototype console
A collection of prototype controllers
An Operating System with a collection of applications to run on the prototype console.
A collection of games to be used on the operating system.
Risks that may affect the project include it running over budget in which the solution would be to either try cutting costs or raise additional funds, running past the deadline which could be solved by increasing the amount of people working on the project or not being able to complete the project in which the funds would be returned.
