Chamberlain reunited in the Spring of 2009 for what was supposed to be a short-lived reunion, a quick loop of the midwest, and a reconciliation between us five lifelong friends.
As we reminisced, reconnected, and as the old songs breathed new life — a newfound respect for the chemistry we share emerged. And with it, something kept calling us back home.
We played New York, and again at festival in Louisville the following year. We recorded a new single, and embarked on a full US support tour. We jammed in LA. Then we celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Moon My Saddle with more appearances. And just this year we returned to the UK and Europe.
We’ve been humbled and gratified by all of you who showed up, sang along with us, and kept our songs in your hearts. However, as we settle back in to our respective states—that homeward voice keeps calling, and asking, “What’s Next”?
Admittedly there have always been a lot of ‘what-ifs’ revolving around our little band. And perhaps the biggest of those is: What if we were to record new music? What would it sound like? And how would we go about that?
So this spring, at the urging of our friend (and now producer) Carl Broemel, we descended on Nashville to test the waters. To our excitement, the experiment worked. And what resulted was our new single “Some Other Sky” — which has since become the seed for our new upcoming album, RED WEATHER.
We’ve since been back to Tennessee this summer to record again, and have laid down the bulk of the basic tracks. Some of those works-in-progress can be heard in our Kickstarter promo video above.
We truly feel that after all these years we’re better and wiser musicians than ever before. We’ve written a bunch of material, and couldn’t be more excited to share it with all of you!
Making music is a joy, but putting out records is a lot of work. And it requires overhead expenses we simply don’t have.
Just some of those costs include; travel expenses, studio costs, mixing, mastering, production, artwork, publicity, and distribution.
We’ve set our monetary goal at a bare minimum of what we’ve budgeted for recording and production. If we’re lucky enough to exceed our goal, we can do things like BE A BAND — create more content, videos, play more shows, etc, etc…
Admittedly most of us were at first timid about crowdsourcing a record. But the more we imagined the idea of making our own record on our own terms, and involving our fans throughout the journey—the more that trepidation morphed into excitement.
Our campaign is essentially a pre-order for the album, with a ton of fun extras and exclusive incentives for you!
And our goal here is simple: To make the best LP we can on our terms, and get it into your hands as soon as possible. Then we can all celebrate together!
There is absolutely no way we can do this without your support. So please help us bring a new album to your doorstep. We are forever grateful for your support.
Much Love,
David, Curtis, Adam, Charlie & Clay
We’ve been a band for over 20 years, so we’re well aware of the numerous obstacles that will inevitably present themselves (both logistically and budget-wise). Although our sound might have refined itself over time, our work ethic took root in the punk scene–so we are no strangers to creative DIY solutions. We can only hope this project means as much to you as it does to us, and we can’t wait to see this to the finish line (with your help!).
