Our character “Spirit” is an astronaut who is sent into space to explore and observe a wormhole near our galaxy. She is stuck with her malfunctioning spaceship and soon runs out of food. When she faces the inevitable, she enters the wormhole and realizes who she is and how the universe came into being.
We wish to finish this project independently. Leaving the financial focus behind, our enthusiasm for art and aesthetics guides us to create such a piece of art rather than a commercial product. Therefore, our film must give the feeling and impression of an experimental science-fiction production in its essence and it is crucial for us to make the audience connect with the main character deeply, sympathizing with her in each and every scene. The process of making a commercial movie includes many steps including producers, agency members and their clients interference and comments which mostly kills the artistic aims of the movie itself and reduces the emotions that a movie should consist of. To achieve this, it is of great important that the producers should not and cannot interfere with the film.
As you can see from the trailer, our aim is to try to keep the audience alive with themes that lunatics such as Kubrick and Nolan have already been exploring :). Sounds and visuals are indispensable and inseparable elements to cover an important and raw subject in such a short period of time.
Therefore, we aim to be in IMAX format to charm the audience deep into the screen immersed with the character herself. Great news if you have widescreen television at home!!
Creating IMAX resolution using completely CGI and VFX in this movie, our biggest handicap is the film rendering process and how long it takes. It took us a year to write, draw, render 3D scenes and compose VFX for a three-and-a-half minute trailer. We spent our nights (mostly mornings) for this film whilst also working full-time jobs. Especially my lifestyle while I was making this trailer could be described well in a David Bowie song “Space Oddity”:
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on…
When it comes to working at a high resolution, it made us want throw our rather low-performance equipment away! Let’s face it, it’s not much fun to look at the progress bar…
Thirdly, the challenges such as presenting, advertising and putting our movie into the big screen feels like we’re going through a black hole… We don’t want to end up spagettified. Instead, we want to end up in your screens.
In the end we will continue to work for this film. Kickstarter funds will give us computing advantages. Besides that we will put all of our efforts into this movie and that will help to keep the creative process happening.
Listen to David Bowie saying;
“Though I’m past one hundred thousand miles
I’m feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go”
That’s where we are and that’s how we see ourselves in the future.
Now we have a trailer that we can show you proudly so you can get a feel as to what the whole movie is like. Why do we require your support at kickstarter? Because in order to finish this, me and my team have to put in all of our energy and effort into the film. Nevertheless, not only physically but also mentally we feel ready to handle this process. Bear in mind that your financial support will make our job so much easier.
“Now it’s time to leave the capsule if you dare”
Help us leave our capsule, guys.
While working our full-time jobs, finishing the film is both exhausting and time consuming. We’re super excited and looking forward to presenting the film to festivals and to you, the audience.
