My wife and I are avid game players. We have enjoyed each other’s company for years while playing the “Gentlemen’s Game” of cribbage. To honor the 70th birthday of the parent who taught us how to play, we created a board that was a usable game while being an elegant conversation piece for the coffee table. As various family members play on this board, they have requested that one be made for them (bordering on insistent).
As electronics consume more and more of our lives, we want to do our part to bring face-to-face conversation back to the table. We want to provide something that can be passed down from generation to generation.
We are raising funds to improve and upgrade the tools we use to create these heirlooms. The game board is made out of a single piece of hardwood, with average dimensions being 7x16x1.75 inches. These are only approximate sizes, as each piece is hand selected for quality. Once a piece is selected, the cribbage design is altered to fit the individual board. There is room for a full size deck of cards and 9 pegs on the bottom side of the board (cards and metal pegs provided). The pocket cover is made from a contrasting color of hardwood and can be engraved, as well.
Thank you for considering our project. We hope to be able to share our passion with you and yours.
We all know that the world we live in is imperfect, and unexpected things can happen at a moment’s notice. The biggest challenges we face are the ones we don’t know about. As we plan for the challenges we can expect, the main one will be getting the game boards out in a timely manner. The equipment that we currently use is older and in need of updating/replacing. Although we will be able to get the game boards produced, a machine or tool break-down could easily set us back a few weeks. There is also a concern with acquiring specific wood species and/or inlay materials. If our suppliers run out, it does take some time to replenish, if that is even an option. If the project is fully funded, we will attempt to procure all the lumber and inlay material at one time, providing alternatives if specifics are unavailable.
