Roxy Doom is a 240-page-long graphic novel by sisters Martha and Olivia Agostini.
After years in the making, the book is finally ready to be printed. This campaign’s goal is to raise funds to print it. Any additional funds will be funnelled back directly into the production of future editions and used for distribution.
Roxy Doom and The Great CK. They are the couple everyone talks about. He is Generation X Ambassador. She is the Alternative Rock Queen, leader of Noseband, a band that is going to be on everyone’s map. One way or another.
And then, along comes the year 1995. Noseband bassist dies in a fire just weeks after the release of their second and most famous album ominously entitled “Don’t Ever Tell Anybody Anything”. And the Great CK’s car is found in the Los Angeles River, leaving no body behind. The dream is over. The myth begins.
Fast forward to the year 2015: Music journalist Travis Travis receives an unexpected offer. Former Rock Queen turned celeb Roxy Doom wants him to help her pen her memoirs.
The only problem is that Roxy doesn’t seem too keen on revealing things, and Travis has a fervent imagination …
With Roxy Doom we have reinvented the 1990s. Now that we know how things evolved, it is almost weird to look back. But we have particularly enjoyed this ride, as what today is considered official History to us will always remain the decade of our growing up, the events we still know best.
Needless to say, any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.
“Oh, but those were the ’90s, when you didn’t need to say the 1990s …”
Roxy Doom is an experimental graphic novel. A scrapbook filled with clippings, screenshots, and extensive parts of written text. At the same time it is a genuine comic book with entire scenes fully drawn and hand-written balloons.
Anybody who has/had an interest in rock bands of the ’90s will enjoy this book. But it will be possible to enjoy it even if one didn’t, because it tells a gripping investigative story.
And you’ll find in it plenty of romance, too, and humour. Not to mention drama.
It certainly shows the contrast between how we consumed information about bands like Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins back in their heyday via MTV and music magazines, versus how this information—and any other piece of information, for that matter—reaches our eyes and ears now, via Google (or Giggle!) and every other source of social media that is permanently hooked into our veins.
The book will be 155 x 216 mm, 240 pages long, all printed in full colour on matte 115gsm paper with a matte laminated softcover with flaps.
Some parts of Roxy Doom were originally serialized by Casscomics—our underground production of music cassettes + comic zines—in 2015-2016. Those issues have reached Toronto, New York City, Berlin, Milano and Tokyo. They were limited editions, and are now sold out. Maybe some of you reading this own one of those and have been waiting to read more ever since … Well, that’s the moment you’ve been longing for!
Along with the already released songs from the Casscomics days, this original soundtrack features new songs and instrumental pieces especially composed by various artists, to create a full-length album as a companion to the book.
Here’s a medley preview of just some songs you will find in it:
This is our first kickstarter campaign, but not our first artistic venture. The book is ready, we have selected our printer and investigated the shipping methods. Of course, delays and problems can always arise, but we’ll make sure to communicate transparently about any potential issues.
