LUNA Fête is a visionary initiative created by the Arts Council New Orleans to demonstrate the power of art to transform communities. Now celebrating LUNA Fête’s sixth year– we’re proud that the nation’s longest-running, large-scale annual projection mapping festival was created right here in New Orleans.
Since its 2014 inception, LUNA Fête has presented some of the top light and projection-based artists in the world, while simultaneously presenting local artists work… all free for the public to attend. LUNA Fête’s Sixth Edition – the Shadow Circus will feature brighter lights, interactive experiences, & live performances to transform downtown Nola into a playground of light.
This year we’re excited to premiere new projects, including a trio of women-led projection mapping installations on Gallier Hall, youth and local artists’ work, and the internationally – acclaimed Waterlight Graffiti by Antonin Fourneau, which allows participants to paint with light. To use water, which has neither shape nor color, to draw light, is a magical experience, regardless of the public age or its artistic sensibility. This opportunity becomes a new kind of interaction with urban architecture, which is a perfect example of how light-based works can transform public space.
Why support our Kickstarter? Hosting a free community festival for 75,000+ attendees requires a tremendous undertaking. Our efforts to keep LUNA Fête free and accessible to the public are completely dependent on the generosity and support of our community. Consider a Kickstarter contribution as your ticket to the event (along with some fun perks!) and demonstrate your support of the Arts Council vision to showcase Art in Everything.
How do you experience LUNA Fête?
LUNA Fête is open December 12 – 15th from 6 – 10 pm nightly. Located across from Lafayette Square, Gallier Hall is the anchor to our campus. Projection mapping shows begin at the top of each hour, with different content rotating each hour. Plan to stay in Lafayette Square an hour and a half to see all the projection shows. Don’t worry, we have an arts market, concessions, and lasers for you to enjoy and explore during intermission.
The rest of LUNA Fête’s campus is located along Lafayette Street and can be viewed at your own pace. From Lafayette Square head towards the river to experience artworks created by local and international artists, from projection mapping, to interactive experiences, and light-based sculpture there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Make sure to head all the way to Fulton Street so you don’t miss any of the art. There you can discover Lamplighter, a giant interactive gas lamp within Harrah’s Miracle on Fulton.

As a free public festival, LUNA Fête is only as successful as the community support behind it. We believe art is what makes New Orleans great and it should be accessible to all of our city’s diverse citizens and visitors.
