My name is Casey and I am a private chef and trainer currently based in San Diego, CA. The dream is to publish a children’s book that gets kids of all ages excited to eat healthy foods and play/exercise so that they are able to live their best life! Avery is a real 6yr old boy who loves eating his fruit & vegetables and playing games of all kinds; he is the healthiest and happiest kid I’ve ever met and a great example for others.
Avery and I met at his father’s gym in 2017 and quickly became best friends; we work out together and then make healthy smoothies and juice for ourselves and other members of the gym. I had been working on this book project for years and was having some mental/creative blocks, specifically on the main character; once I met Avery it was clear he was the “Fit Kid” I’d been looking for and from there the story and illustrations came easy! In the story Avery wishes for superpowers so he can be better at playing games with his friends, he meets a wise crow who tells him to make a smoothie and he goes on to be the best game player ever!
With the continued rise in Childhood Obesity I think it’s of paramount importance that we begin inspiring healthy eating habits amongst our children as early as possible. This book is written for ages 3+ and utilizes color, animals and magical ideas to captivate young minds and motivate them to want to eat fruits and vegetables. If we can get the future generation to embrace healthy eating habits early on it will mean a better and brighter future for all!
Fund appropriation: Printing 100 copies in full color has been quoted at $685. Graphic Designer quote to finalize/convert original artwork is $675. I am also asking for $200 for any potential artwork revisions/unforeseen costs- if neither arise, this money will be used to print additional book copies. The remainder is Kickstarter’s fee.
To get this book finalized, printed and delivered by January 31st, 2020 is going to be challenging. I’m hoping the artist will get started off a deposit as they need at least 4wks to convert the original artwork. Other than that, seeing as the book is written and artwork drafted I do not see any major risks or obstacles.
