In the narrative genre, this is my directorial debut.
When I wrote Sam & Emma, I wanted to tell a story of immense love and intense pain and how each can result from the other. This film is about expectation, grief, knowing when to walk away, and when to come back.
I have tremendous respect for films about individuals struggling with their sexuality, and I will continue to advocate for their presence in and amongst all forms of media. However, in this film, I wanted to represent and explore LGBTQ women struggling with issues away from sexual identity, and more toward our identity as women, our capabilities as human beings, and the roles we play in our relationships.
Made up of over 60% women and a mix of LGBTQ & advocates, this incredibly talented and experienced cast & crew absolutely crushed our four days of filming.
With principal photography complete, we are now raising finishing funds which will go toward the following:
If we surpass our goal and/or if there are any additional funds, they will be used for other festival expenses and the eventual premiere/screening event.
…this film is going to look and feel absolutely beautiful. Shot on a RED Epic Dragon by award-winning cinematographer, Chris Bond, our main goal was to maintain artistic integrity both visually and narratively. Storytelling was our first and foremost priority. We can’t wait to share what we’ve created with all of you.
With your help, it will hit the film festival circuit in 2020.
There are always risks involved when funding a film, but with pre-production and principal photography already complete, the only challenge that lies ahead is post-production. We can say with certainty that this film will hit the festival circuit by 2020. We will be able to do so easier and faster with your help. Your contribution and/or share to your social media pages is incredibly appreciated. We believe in this! And we’re GLAAD you do, too. :)
