Between 2016 and 2018, we made a film, THE WORLD CITY, shot in the city of Grande-Synthe, which follows the birth of the first humanitarian camp for refugees from France, the hopes and the dead ends that it aroused, testifying to a unique experience that ended in a fire. For the inhabitants of the camp, the city, and all the actors of its creation and its management, including Mayor Damien Carême, MSF, Utopia 56, this camp had the great merit to exist, and to propose a solution emergency home more dignified than the one before it: the shantytown of Basroch.
Since its release, the film has been discovered by viewers of France 3 and RTBF (Belgium), it has also been presented to the public and accompanied by its director Antares Bassis, its producer Estelle Robin You, its cinematographer Adrien Rivollier , its main protagonist Cyrille Hanappe, or a representative of Médecins Sans Frontières, Mickaël Neumann.
Everywhere, we realize that the question of the reception of exiles requires a debate accompanied by a speaker. But more than anything, we realize that this film can be a tool to go beyond the debate: it is about taking action!
Today, we want to make this film available and offer you evenings
*********************** INVITE YOUR ELECTED ********************** *****
A cycle of screenings in French cities, in the presence of all the links essential to action: civil society actors, welcoming associations, urban planners, architects, activists, citizens and local elected representatives.
For each screening, we take care to make the film available to you, to search with you the most suitable place, and to propose a speaker: film director, character of the film, or any other person involved in the film. question of reception.
We evaluated the cost of each evening at 800 euros, including the transport of the speaker and his remuneration, the rental of the room, the rental of the film, and a part of our coordination work. We hope to finance 5 evenings in 5 cities of France, 4000 euros! With 5000 euros, we reach the threshold that allows us to do this work with a team.
We know that there is a lot of reluctance to welcome people seeking refuge. These reluctances are driven by fear, and also by reason, when one opposes to the goodwill of some, the reality of a disaster situation that crystallizes in an already difficult socio-economic context.
Together, let’s not be afraid to dare, to invent, and more than ever to convince our local elected representatives that their role can be decisive and beneficial for their territory!
Our project is based on our ability to federate communities to organize screenings. We know this work well, and we know the time and energy it requires. Time is money. We must therefore be able to pay for this work so that it can be done in the best conditions, and so that we can entrust it to someone whose specialty it is. The cities that are facing the issue of hosting refugees, we identified them. It’s now time for us to find a way!
