Hello! We are Anna Holmberg and Rikke Goldbech, two visual artists from Copenhagen, Denmark. For the past year, we have been researching magical creatures – both those that populate the sagas of our native Scandinavia as well as those in the legends of East Asia. Through our work, we aim to explore how mythical creatures – despite differences in geography and culture – reflect our common human hopes and fears, anxieties and dreams.
We are excited to announce that we have been invited to continue this cross-cultural exploration in both Taiwan and China in the coming months, and we would love your support in getting there! This Kick-Starter initiative will help us to buy the plane tickets needed to fly from Copenhagen, Denmark to Taipei, Taiwan, and from Shanghai, China back to Copenhagen.
In Taitung, Taiwan, we will be participating in an Artist-in-Residency program. While there, we will be exploring Taiwanese myths and legends through collaborations with local communities, including the Taromak tribe and residents of the town of Amis. We will be hosting a public workshop in which we will invite the local community to share conversations over tea and express themselves with clay. Our stay in Taitung will culminate in an exhibition sharing our work with the public.
We will then head to Xiamen, China, where we have been invited to work at the Nordic Center of Contemporary Art. While there, we will work on our individual art pieces, synthesizing and processing what we have collected thus far on our journey in terms of experiences, knowledge, and materials (such as poetic and scientific texts, photos, drawings, sound recordings, etc).
If you’d like to be a part of our adventure into the intersections of art, storytelling, fantasy, humanity, and culture, please support us!
If we don’t get enouch money ( here or from the fonds we have applied), we eather have to shorten our trip or cancel it.
