Stretch Goal – $14000 CAD
Now that the initial funding goal has been met, I’d like to introduce a stretch goal. If we reach the new target of $14000, all decks will include the addition of a 79th card – The Tree of Life. A description of this card will be included in the guidebook.
Hello! My name is Greg and I’m the creator of the WilderWoven Tarot. This tarot deck weaves the beauty and magic found in the Pacific Northwest wilderness with the messages and teachings of the Tarot. The images were painted with watercolors in a double exposure style to provide the cards with layers of meaning and to speak to the relationship between inner and outer forms, visually demonstrating that we are in this world, and the world is in us.
I began working on the WilderWoven Tarot in early March 2018. Nearly every day since then, I’ve sketched, painted, wrote, or planned some aspect of this deck. I’m so excited to finally share this project with you.
The WilderWoven Tarot is a fully illustrated, 78 card deck. Although human-made implements appear in many of the illustrations (particularly the court cards), this deck is primarily nature themed. Only one human figure can be found throughout these cards.
The 22 cards of the Major Arcana are depicted as scenes within animal outlines. An effort was made to include a variety of forms, ranging from whales, to birds, turtles, and insects.
The Suit of Pentacles represents finances, career, and material matters. In this deck, these themes are embodied by land mammals. Pentacle cards offer guidance on issues relating to money, home, and physical health. This suit is associated with the element of earth, as illustrated by the mountain silhouette.
The Suit of Wands represents passion, energy, and inspiration. In this deck, these themes are embodied by insects. Wand cards offer guidance on issues relating to creativity and the spirit. This suit is associated with the element of fire, as represented by the flame silhouette.
The Suit of Swords represents thoughts, words, and logic. In this deck, these themes are embodied by birds. Sword cards offer guidance on issues relating to communication and the state of our minds. This suit is associated with the element of air, as illustrated by the cloud silhouette.
The Suit of Cups represents feelings, emotions, and intuition. In this deck, these themes are embodied by aquatic creatures. Cup cards offer guidance on issues relating to relationships and our emotional well-being. This suit is associated with the element of water, as illustrated by the droplet silhouette.
The Cards
The cards are printed on thick 350 gsm cardstock and measure 3.5×5 inches. I chose this larger than standard size because I wanted all the details I put in to these paintings to be visible when you’re holding the cards in your hands.
The Box
The WilderWoven Tarot will come in a two-piece rigid box with gloss lamination.
The Guidebook
Every deck comes with a guidebook that sits on top of the cards. The guidebook contains descriptions and keywords for each card, upright and reversed. In my descriptions, I’ve written how the particular animal or scene I’ve chosen relates to the meaning of the card. In addition, the guidebook includes notes on the Major Arcana, the four suits, court cards, basic numerology, and example Tarot spreads.
The Card Back
I think birch is the most beautiful bark with its white, black, silver, and earthy colors. The birch tree is a symbol of protection and new beginnings, fitting qualities for the Tarot.
The card back is reversible, so whether a card is upright or reversed is uncertain when the card is facedown.

The majority (61.2%) of the funds raised will go towards the first print run of the WilderWoven Tarot. About a quarter of the funds (23.7%) will cover shipping the decks to me. Some money will cover Kickstarter and payment processing fees (10%). Lastly, a small percentage (5.1%) will be used for miscellaneous expenses.
I will be charging for shipping at a later date using a pledge manager. After the campaign has ended, you will be asked to fill out a backer survey (to provide your address) and you will be charged for shipping at that time. Please note – this means that you will be charged twice. Once after the campaign ends and again when I have the decks ready to send.
I will do my best to keep shipping prices as low as possible, but international shipping can be quite expensive. Please note that you are responsible for any international customs fees that may occur. I can not send my packages as anything other than merchandise.
Here are the estimated shipping costs:
During the campaign I will be completing the designs for both the two-piece box and guidebook cover. If the campaign meets its funding goal, I will order the final hardcopy proofs of the deck to ensure everything is exactly how I envision before your decks are printed.
The printers that I’ve chosen have printed over 200 crowd-funded projects and I’ve been really impressed with both their responsiveness and the quality of their sample cards.
This is my first crowd-funded project. And although I’ve done extensive research on how to run a smooth and successful Kickstarter campaign, unforeseen obstacles may occur.
To minimize delays, I’ve completed all the paintings and writing for the deck and guidebook prior to launching this campaign. What remains is a final okay of proofs, printing, and shipping. I’m highly confident in the printing company that I’ve chosen, but it is based overseas and it’s possible there may be delays in production or shipping schedules.
If any setbacks were to occur, I will keep all of my supporters updated and informed. If this project is not fully-funded within 30 days, everyone’s money will be refunded.
