The magazine
Light is such a vast and inspiring subject. It deeply influences artists, photographers, filmmakers, scientists. It is part of our everyday life – yet remains mysterious and evocative.
The subject of light allows to discover the work of people in a wide range of fields and gather complementary visions and experiences around that theme. The light observer aims to become a reference for eclectic discovery and build an exciting group of artists, thinkers and young talents.
The first issue
We are proud to have in our first issue:
Everything is in place for this first issue. We are ready to print, yet we do need your kind support in order to make this magazine a reality.
The magazine is carefully designed, printed in Italy on high-quality paper from Swedish brand Arctic Paper. The Munken papers we chose are environmentally friendly and guarantee a sleek impression with genuine colours. The magazine will be done in offset printing for optimal quality.
It has a format of L20 x H27 cm and 128 pages.
The team
We are curious, passionate and inclusive.
Hugo Berger is the editor-in-chief and designer. He had the chance to work with various design and architecture studios around the world. He’s curious by nature and loves exploring the world and meeting people. It led him to learn how to make handmade shoes with Rickard Guy, design bicycles with Moustache bikes and Philippe Starck, work on interior design at Superfutures, on magazines at Rivista Studio or design products with George Sowden. He has a love for independent magazines and is the creative mind behind The light observer.
Eleonora Paciullo is the photo editor. Following a degree in design she embraced a path in photography. After graduating in Milan she’s been working with London based publishing house GOST books. She was there an active contributor on projects for Elliott Erwitt or Mark Power to name but a few. Eleonora also collaborated with smaller publishers like Witty Kiwi or Zatara Press. She is now based in Barcelona where she works with Magnum photographer Joan Fontcuberta.
We are in the process of building our team that already includes artists, photographers and writers and we welcome new collaborators with bright ideas.

OPERATION
The complete budget for the launch of this first issue is 11.500 euros. The Light Observer has invested 6.000 euros in order to pay the contributors and open a publishing house among the most important things. Our team has developped and designed this first issue with great care. We launch this Kickstarter campaign to raise the remaining 6.000 euros and be able to distribute it worldwide.
The capital raised during this Kickstarter campaign will be allocated as follows:
5.500€ : funding of issue no.1 – print, launch and distribution.
9.500€ : total funding of issue no.1 (rest being covered by advertising)
15.000€ and + : total funding for issue no.1 and 60% and + of issue no.2
Our first edition is ready to go to print.
We are now relying on your support to bring this first issue to life. If you like the project please share it with friends and people who might also be interested. We wish anyone who has an interest in art and is curious by nature will enjoy our magazine.
Printing magazines is a costly process. We publish ourselves, as independent publisher and our core team is working on a volunteer basis. That’s why this campaign is very important for us and the magazine and hopefully will reward the great work done.
In order to present the magazine and meet people interested in our project we will do two live presentations, in Milan and Barcelona during our Kickstarter campaign.
The risk if we don’t succeed in our fundraising is that we won’t be able to launch our 2nd issue. The launch of the first issue will also be delayed.
If we collect more money it will allow us to work on our next issue more serenely and look forward to developing publication projects with artists!
If we fail to meet our financial goal, the publication of the first issue will unfortunately be delayed. If that happens you won’t be charged and you will not receive your magazine and goodies. Learn more about Kickstarter’s policy here : https://www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/kickstarter+basics
We will keep you informed as frequently as possible : on Kickstarter and on our various platforms:
