Hi! My name is Geoff and I run Fish in the Pot, a kitchen-table game design studio and games publisher. This Kickstarter Campaign is for a collection of One-Page Dungeons that are fully compatible with the World’s Most Popular Table Top Role Playing Game.
The collection features 15 short dungeons for your RPG table. Each dungeon is quick to read, simple to prep, and fun to play. Each Dungeon includes a map and full descriptions of the challenges and surprises that the Player Characters will face all on a single page. Some Dungeons will include a new, feature monster designed specifically for the Dungeon. Others may include strange new game mechanisms or super rare magic items.
It is my hope that this collection of small and modular dungeons will entertain the reader and stir imaginations into new realms of creativity.
One-Page Dungeons are table top gaming tools that quickly get to the essence of fun and adventure.
Fish in the Pot One-Page Dungeons are all compatible with the current rules of the World’s Most Popular Role-Playing Game. However, these dungeons attempt to shift the focus from usual dungeon tropes. The fifteen dungeons collected here vary greatly in theme, challenge, and flavor. What they all have in common is a sense of whimsy and ease of pre-game prep.
Fish in the Pot One-Page Dungeons leave room for Game Masters to insert critical, story specific plot items or fun, PC specific rewards that cannot be contemplated by the Dungeon Designer. Need a dramatic reveal for your maguffin? Wanna give the party’s fighter an extra special magic sword? Take advantage of the opportunities made available in these One-Page Dungeons.
The Dungeons are expandable, granting the Game Master room to flavor the scene with customized ambiance and atmosphere.
Throw a One-Page Dungeon into one of the bigger dungeons you’ve prepped to run. Combine two or more One-Page Dungeons into a mega dungeon experience. Run a single One-Page Dungeon in one short fun session. Alternatively, you can just read them all and keep the ideas you love for your own creations.
Rip this book apart and use all of the pieces to build something amazing!
On March 15, 2019 I picked up a graph paper journal on Super Saver Special at the local office supply box store with intentions to design a One-Page Dungeon on every page of the book. Over the next several months, the pages started to fill up with hobgoblins, dwarfs, kobolds, hags, and all sorts of strange circumstances and locations.
I began posting a new One-Page Dungeon on Facebook every Friday in support of the WV Fox Extra Life campaign (a campaign that raises awareness for Fox G1 syndrome while raising money for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Facebook Page Here and Extra Life Page Here). Eventually, I started posting the One-Page Dungeons on twitter with the hashtag #FreeDungeonFriday. If you search the tag and do some digging, you’re likely to find a bunch of the dungeons!
The practice of regularly creating unique and fun One-Page Dungeons evolved into a whole new method of creativity and game design for me, eventually leading to a pursuit of DIY Table Top RPG design and publishing.
Fish in the Pot started its design style with the One-Page Dungeon, so it seems fitting that the first Fish in the Pot Kickstarter focuses on the One-Page Dungeon.
I believe in the platform.
I have backed the Kickstarter campaigns of others many times over the years, but have never launched my own campaign. I am eager to learn from this experience and take new knowledge gained and put it to work in future Fish in the Pot products.
I support Kickstarter workers’ right to unionize. Kickstarter United is NOT calling for boycott and it appears that the BEST way to support the organization’s efforts is to launch projects and support the platform. If anything changes in the ongoing organization efforts, then this campaign will change to comport to the desires of Kickstarter United.
Fish in the Pot is a representative of the SWORDDREAM movement of table top game design. This means that Fish in the Pot strives to be radically inclusive and to hold itself out as a standard for equity and justice. Read more about my thoughts on the SWORDDREAM movement here.
Thanks for visiting my Kickstarter Campaign! I hope you’ve found something here that excites your imagination and makes you want to go out and create your own stories, games, adventures, and art. Tell your friends about us!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. I’ll do my best to answer quickly!
Where to begin?
This is the first time I’ve ever done anything like this, but I have managed many large projects and events over the course of my professional life. The muggle job keeps me busy.
A unique challenge to be faced here is on the production and distribution side of the product. I have done plenty of research on how best to get the zines printed, but the distribution process will be a pure learning experience.
One of the reasons that I am not including stretch goals or a large funding goal is that, while I do hope this campaign is incredibly successful, I also wish to use it as a test run on the back end of a creative project.
In any event, the dungeons are complete and layout is nearly finished as well. So, no real risks for the product itself!
