What is This is an Art Book?
This is an Art Book (TIAAB) is a magazine that explores the issues and ideas that influence those who write about, curate and create art.
This is an Art Book is thematic in its approach. By focusing on a single theme per issue, we will demonstrate the true variation of creative interpretation across artistic disciplines.
Issue one will dissect the influence of archives on contemporary art practices and explore what it means to establish an independent archive.
Who is featured?
The artists included in the first issue are Bernice Mulenga, Hamed Maiye, Joy Miessi and Rochelle White. Artist, curator and writer Tamar Clarke-Brown discusses both Shenece Oretha and Liz Johnson Artur, and independent curator Amrita Dhallu is a further guest writer. Interviews with Veronica Amon and collective Present Futures also feature.
Our Goal
This is Art Book seeks to carve an important space within the current contemporary arts scene. Through this magazine we can provide an opportunity for artists and curators to fully engage with themes on their own terms. This is an Art Book looks to support artistic talent and creative practices, and serve an audience interested in a variety of interpretations from artists they already know or wish to learn about.
Your Support Matters
The magazine – like many of the artists featured – is entirely independent and therefore we are inviting pre-orders to help us finance the printing costs of issue one of This is an Art Book. The success of the magazine is entirely dependent on contributions to this Kickstarter.
The biggest challenge This is an Art Book faces is ensuring that we meet the print deadline towards the end of November. However we’re confident we’ll be able meet this and plan to have the magazine, tote bags and stickers on their way to everyone in December. If there are any issues with this, our funders will be the first ones to know.
