Five years ago, while I was working as Art Editor at a publishing house, I paid a fare to heard the Belgian photographer Tomas Van Houtryve, from Agency VII, talk about his aerial photography series “Blue sky days” in North of Brooklyn, New York, and his history changed my life.
In 2013, during the Pakistan war, Tomas heard a 13-year-old boy on TV saying that he did not like to see the blue sky anymore because it is the perfect setting for flying American drones and he had lost his family this way, the boy could only feel calm in a gray sky; that’s the reason for the series titled.
At that time, I had been taking pictures for seven years and had made some drone attempts, but seeing those zeniths, black and white images, which created a different view of all those war stories, it was the breaking point. I approached Tomas and after we talked about his experience doing these photos, my head got crazy.
As soon as I came back to Mexico, I did knew what I wanted to do; I took my savings and bought all the required equipment. Since then, drones, photography, and design are the focus of everything I do. Today, after six years, The Other View born, an editorial project where all these passions are mixed from another perspective.
——————————————————————————————-
The Other View will be the compilation of more than one hundred aerial photos taken in Mexico City and all around the world. Each page will be an exercise between photography and design. This image selection will include one-off moments such as the beginning of a storm; buildings and natural landscapes that, from the air, play with geometry; and controversial moments such as the celebration of a bullfight after the earthquake of September 19th in Mexico City.
I founded my studio in 2017. With a talented team, I have explored editorial design (books and magazines), corporate design (branding and packaging) and multimedia design. Therefore, the first book I do about my work will be not only a delightful visual project but also the means to share some of the advice I would love to know when I started at each one of these disciplines. The Other View will be a unique coffee-table book and an instrument to explore these worlds.

For several years, mainly after Instagram posted one of my photos in his official feed, I thought that the most important thing about my work was to get thousands of likes. This book, dedicated to the people I love most, is a personal challenge to put aside digital vanity and materialize the things I truly believe in.

Unlike other projects, the production of The Other View it´s already forward talking about the photographic archive; that is why our only risk is that the selection, editing, and design process takes longer than we expected and delivery delay.
