Kingdom of Roots marks the return of Belgian indie orchestra If Anything Happens To The Cat after a year long hiatus, and sees the band once again shed its skin with a highly experimental record featuring a more visceral sound, while still retaining their post-rock antics.
Musically speaking this is very much a guitar record in which the band embraces and builds upon their signature sound of layered melodies and anthemic vocals. Like the previous record, Kingdom of Roots is dominated by a singular lyrical theme. This time we see the band delve deeper into the meaning of putting down roots and how these roots differ from one another, resulting in a sonically muscular and lyrically introspective record.
Kingdom of Roots is the band’s third studio album, after Sun Drunk Moon in 2014 and Mångata in 2017. IAHTTC’s music is an unpredictable mix between post-rock, shoegaze and indie rock. Every song is a journey: through intertwining layers of guitars and synths, past flashes of vocals and guest instruments, often culminating into crushingly emotional climaxes. It has been described by critics as a unique, adventurous and technically masterful take on the post-rock genre.
Kingdom of Roots contains 44 minutes of new music, spread over 8 songs. The album was recorded at Much Luv studio during the summer of 2019 with help of producer/engineer Tim De Gieter, with whom the band also worked for their previous record Mångata, and was mastered by Frederik Dejongh at Jerboa Mastering.
Kingdom of Roots is set to be released on March 20th 2020. By backing the Kickstarter project, you help IAHTTC cover some of the costs involved in releasing an album. And of course you’ll get something beautiful in return.
Lots of love,

This Kickstarter is aimed to help us cover some of the costs involved in releasing an album. These costs include recording, mixing and mastering, artwork, promotion and the production of physical items such as CD’s, vinyl and T-shirts. The recording process was done in the summer of 2019, so there are no real challenges or risks involved. You can see this Kickstarter project as a simple pre-order of ‘Kingdom of Roots’ on the format of your choice.
We aim to release the new album digitally and physically on March 20th 2020. Backers will receive an exclusive download code one week prior to this date. The only potential risk here is the delivery of the physical release being pushed back by the pressing plant.
