The Builders Association’s ELEMENTS OF OZ last premiered in December 2016 with a sold-out and critically acclaimed engagement at NYC’s 3LD Art & Technology Center. Three years later, we couldn’t be more excited to be bringing OZ back to NYC to NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts this December 7 & 8, and we need YOUR help to get us there!
ELEMENTS OF OZ is a 21st Century love story to the 20th Century cultural icon, The Wizard of Oz. From the surreal novel, to the making of the iconic film, to dark conspiracy theories we can’t seem to shake, ELEMENTS OF OZ uses live music, video, performance, and AR to deconstruct and then reconstruct this iconic American story.
The Builders Association has developed a reputation over 25 years for our innovative use of technology and new media in performance. ELEMENTS OF OZ is a perfect example of our signature style.
The Builders welcome you to the merry old land of OZ using augmented reality — on the enchanted tornado of your personal device, via our custom interactive app.
Similar to what technicolor did for the film in 1939, The Builders take you over the rainbow, on your iOS or Android device!
(and return you home without stealing your personal data. You’re welcome.)
We’ve already raised about 90% of our budget from grants and other supporters THANK THE WIZARD, and now we need YOUR help to get us the last 10% of the way.
A donation of any amount will help to see that technology aspects of the work remain marvelous. This means our video, live sound, and interactive app will all be up to ship shape in time for December!
Founded in 1994 by artistic director Marianne Weems, The Builders Association is a New York City-based, OBIE-winning performance and media company that uses the richness of new and old tools to extend the boundaries of theater.
The Builders’ pioneering and innovative process creates original, impactful stories about the human experience in the 21st century, and provide a context in which to explore what it means to live with contemporary technologies. Our work has addressed such issues as outsourcing and corporate colonialism in ALLADEEN, dataveillance in SUPER VISION, and the global financial crisis in HOUSE/DIVIDED.
The Builders Association is an ensemble of artists, many of whom have worked together for over 20 years; including Artistic Director Marianne Weems, Lighting Designer Jennifer Tipton, Sound Designer Dan Dobson, Dramaturg/Writer James Gibbs, Writer/Performer Moe Angelos, and performers Sean Donovan and Hannah Heller. More recent collaborators include Media Designers Austin Switser, Jesse Garrison and Larry Shea.
We have appeared at over 80 venues across the world, including galleries, museums, festivals and theatres. In New York, we have been presented at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (for our last 5 productions), Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, St. Ann’s Warehouse, The Kitchen, New York Theater Workshop, the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim Museum, 3LD Art & Technology Center, and many more.
THANK YOU for checking out our perks — give today!!
We are no strangers to the inherent risks and challenges in this work, and we can assure our backers that the show will go on!
