For nearly a decade, we at Mobius Trio have dedicated ourselves to commissioning and performing new works for guitar. We’re set to release our second full length album and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. In order to do this right, we need to raise $10,500 to cover the varied production costs. This includes mastering, media creation, and distribution.
Bon Voyage represents our exploration and fascination with electric guitars. The works on this album include new music by Adrian Knight, Nick Vasallo, and Mario Godoy, and span a stunning range of aesthetics.
About Us
Mobius Trio can be described as a “classical guitar trio”, but that doesn’t mean they sound like what you’d expect from a classical guitar trio. It might be more accurate to describe the Trio as “three enthusiastic young men who will happily play any type of music on any type of plucked string instrument”. The music Mobius Trio performs might sound like Bach, Baden Powell, Schnittke, Glass, doom metal, punk, Brian Eno, etc. etc., and it might be performed on classical, acoustic, electric, baritone, bass or any other type of guitars.
The Trio exclusively performs music they’ve helped create – via composer commission, arranging, composing, improvising or some combination of these. They have commissioned over three dozen composers since 2010, and that pace isn’t slowing. Recent and upcoming collaborations include Ryan Brown, Ian Dicke, Tilman Hoppstock, and Atanas Ourkouzounov.
Rewards / PARTY!!!
The rewards you see to your right will have various delivery dates, most of which are specified in the reward itself. BUT, the simplest of these is this: on December 7th, 2019, we’ll be releasing Bon Voyage – physically and digitally – and throwing a HUGE PARTY TO CELEBRATE at the Center for New Music (55 Taylor St, San Francisco).
The Center is an amazing, beautiful venue, coworking space, and nonprofit entity that supports… New Music! At our party, we’ll have snacks for you to munch on, beer and wine for you to drink, Bon Voyage CDs for all the folx who ordered physical copies, and we’ll be blasting the album all night. We’d love to have you there and thank you in person – parties at the Center are always killer.
What We’re Asking
There is nothing – NOTHING – more important to us than commissioning and recording new works. Every piece of music in history was new at some point, and the collaboration of composers and performers has always been a critical part in the evolution of what makes music wonderful. Realizing these pieces in a high quality recording (as they were meant to be captured) comes at a price. We want to be transparent about where your donations are going. With your help, we can cover the following costs:
Mixing and Mastering: $1,850
CD production and distribution: $1,500
CD Cover/Jacket design: $750
Recording/Editing/Producing fees and expenses: $6,400*
Total: $10,500
*This one is more complicated than the others — The members of Mobius Trio have put a significant portion of the last 7 years (!!) of their lives into this project. We commissioned the music, we learned it, and we’ve rehearsed it extensively in order to perform it extensively and record it. We produced the record ourselves, tracking it over a period of many months in Mason’s garage. And, we edited the whole record ourselves. When we actually tried to put a number on the amount of hours and money we’ve put into Bon Voyage, we got a hilariously high number, but for the purposes of this Kickstarter, we’re asking for much less.
As artists, we’re always shy about asking people to pay us for our work, but honestly, we’ve worked really hard on this album, and we think it’s really, really cool. The music is amazing, the artwork is amazing, and we’re just really proud of it. We think you’ll really like it, so pick up a copy now!
This album is all done in digital format, and it’s just waiting to be pressed to CD. This is set to occur a few weeks before our planned release date of December 7th, 2019, giving us plenty of time to put CDs into your hands at the release. Of course, anything is possible in this process, including delays, but we’ve tried to make sure everything will be delivered on the expected date.
As you can see, some rewards have other associated dates – some of which need to be coordinated with the backer. We’ll do our best to keep those on track, as well.
