The Taylor Prism or the Sennacherib Prism
The discovery of the Taylor Prism, also called the Sennacherib Prism, was attributed to and named after Colonel Robert Taylor (1790–1852) in 1830 at the ancient site of Nineveh. The Taylor Prism records lists of campaigns led by Sennacherib, King of Assyria from 705-681 B.C., against the Kingdom of Israel and Kingdom of Judah until the start of his final war against Babylon and includes a description of the tribute received from Hezekiah, King of Judah, in 701 B.C. This event is recorded in several books of The Bible, including Isaiah chapters 33 and 36; 2 Kings 18:17; and 2 Chronicles 32:9, and was recorded by the Greek historian Herodotus.
The Taylor Prism (pictured left), also known as the Sennacherib Prism,is listed in a postcard series by the British Museum as #5: “Assyrian monuments bearing on Bible history in the British Museum.” Bible Lands Museum displays a replica.
