Dystopian sci-fi action that’s The Handmaid’s Tale meets Kill Bill. The sequel to the cult hit Pregnant Bitches of War starts here!
Welcome, soldier! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to fund the all-new PBOW: WORLD WAR BITCH No. 1, a 40-page, saddle-stitch comic book continuing the series critics call:
This crazy book premiered five years ago, and you sick people helped make it a cult hit.
Now we need you to join the war effort. By enlisting, you’ll receive regular updates from the front and help us decode top-secret communiques from the enemy. If you’re up to the task, you’ll unlock some bonus rewards and get exclusive access to the Kickstarter edition of PBOW:WORLD WAR BITCH #1, kicking off a brand new arc starring Birdie, Leslie, Bristol, and the whole crazy crew.
If you thought Volume One was nuts… you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
Standard issue when you enlist in the Kickstarter-exclusive edition:
Plucked from the time-stream by mad scientist Nikola Tesla, six pregnant women accidentally kill a young Hitler — and unleash a nightmare future! Now, hunted by the Exalted Father, and with Tesla acting as Charlie to their Angels, they must save the world from a hell of their own creation… before their water breaks!
In other words: it’s The Handmaid’s Tale meets Kill Bill.
The battle began in 2013 when PBOW Volume One launched and quickly became a cult hit, selling through our website, comiXology, and Amazon. A crazy mix of horror, sci-fi, grindhouse, and dark humor, it was a roller-coaster ride exploring a dark future where six pregnant women squared off against… well, Dad. Readers and critics loved it!
Even after the success of RED XMAS, it’s still the comic we’re asked about the most. And after successfully funding and fulfilling a campaign for the Volume One Trade a few years back, we became determined to keep up the good fight.
Our new theatre of war is VERY new-reader friendly. Enlistees can quickly get up to speed with the PDF of Volume One (which comes standard issue with all print tiers). For our soldiers more comfortable with hand-to-hand combat than digital warfare, print copies of the PBOW Volume One trade will be available.
Enlistees can expect the war to last 4 issues, and we think it’s our best series yet. And don’t worry about the top brass, soldier–so far, we’ve completed 5 issues of volume one, 5 issues of DEADSKINS!, and the 4th and final issue of RED XMAS is coming later this year. We’re the kind of people who finish what we start. When you back a FRIED Comic, you’re backing with confidence.
But you know what? That’s enough yappin’ from me. You’re here because you want to see some action! Here’s actual footage of the war in progress…
Original series artist DJ PARNELL returns to grace our first variant cover, based on our opening scene. It’s great to see DJ back in the saddle again:
Our second cover is courtesy of Eisner-nominated artist John Amor, whose 100 Bullets tribute is shaping up to be a stunner…
We’ll update you on the progress of this variant as continues to take shape!
PLEASE NOTE: Both variants come with a variant-only digital exclusive. They will also be limited editions, with each book hand numbered on the inside cover. Strike early to snag a low number!
Awesome artist and all-around swell guy Kyle Roberts contributed a pin-up to our PBOW Volume One Trade, and he recently created a limited edition, hand-numbered, hand-painted edition of it. We’ve got a limited supply of these beauties, so act fast, soldier!
At the $100 level, Fabio will draw you an exclusive sketch of a character from PBOW on a size A5 card. Here are some of the awesome cards he whipped up last year:
Now imagine these with kickass pregnant ladies instead of holiday characters.
Snag a one-of-a-kind commission featuring a PBOW character from Fabio Ramacci in standard comic board size. Fabio did some of these for last year’s RED XMAS, and they came out great.
If you want something more complicated than a couple of characters from PBOW, drop us a line and we can totally work it out (fair warning: there may be an additional fee, depending on what you want). Last year, Fabio rocked this one for a backer:
One lucky soldier will be rewarded for their bravery (and deep pockets) with our Kickstarter Project Image, lovingly drawn in the traditional style by Fabio Ramacci. This is a one-of-a-kind piece, and it can be yours-all-yours:
Said soldier gets a commission piece of their choice too!
War is hell. So is the post office. We’ve received our fair share of comics that got mangled by the mail carrier.
You pay premium prices on Kickstarter, and you deserve better. That’s why your supplies will be delivered in Gemini Comic Mailers.
These babies are sturdy. They require a little more money, a little more time (and a lot more tape!) but it’s worth it to make sure your comics arrive in pristine condition.
And if somehow your comic still shows up looking like it went through a war zone?
Frieda will replace it free of charge.
Your base of operations will be the FRIED Diner. To many civilians, the diner appears to be a cover for a comics publisher of questionable taste. But don’t be fooled by their five successful Kickstarters–the comics business is ALSO a cover. These people are battle-hardened warriors, and they’ll be your guides as you enter the fray.
Clay Adams is best known as a voice actor, with lead roles on TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: FAST FORWARD, YU-GI-OH GX and 5Ds. He is a co-creator of FRIED Comics, the pulp fiction imprint through which he has successfully funded and fulfilled five Kickstarter campaigns, including the holiday comic, RED XMAS. His directorial debut, THE BOY SCOUT, was nominated for Best Short at the Golden Egg Film Festival in Los Angeles, and his feature script, THE ECLIPSE, placed second in the horror category of the FADEIn Awards. He has written and directed for television and holds a BFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU. When Clay first met Alexandre, he thought, “My, what a sophisticated European.” Boy, was he wrong!
Film nerd/director Alexandre’s most recent movie is MEMORY: THE ORIGIN OF ALIEN, an acclaimed documentary about Ridley Scott’s sci-fi masterpiece, playing festivals now. He holds a Masters Degree in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has written and directed numerous award-winning films and documentaries, including 78/52: HITCHCOCK’S SHOWER SCENE, THE PEOPLE vs. GEORGE LUCAS, DOC OF THE DEAD, and THE LIFE AND TIMES OF PAUL THE PSYCHIC OCTOPUS. When Alexandre first met Clay, he thought, “My, what a stupid American.” Boy, was he right!
Hot off RED XMAS, Fabio jumps into the PBOW fray from Rome, Italy, where he has published with Sergio Bonelli Editore, Star Comics and Midian Comics. Currently he is focused on Dynamite Entertainment and contributing to indie comics on Kickstarter! Our resident Italian
Stallion likes alt rock and (we assume) makes a great cappuccino, but all indications are that he ain’t that Fabio.
Ilaria is an Italian comic artist and colorist. She has published two euro-manga style books with Kasaobake as co-author and co-artist; she’s done a bunch of covers as a digital painter and now she’s working as a colorist for many secret projects worldwide – no joke!
John is a cartoonist, illustrator and writer. He has successfully funded two books of his creator owned series Rancidville on Kickstarter, as well as contributing to a number of anthology projects. He currently skulks in the hills of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania with his family.
Frieda’s really not so bad once you get to know her. Don’t make eye contact, but more importantly, never turn your back.
Because wars–like comics–have to be funded, dammit!
Did you know Forbes magazine recently named Kickstarter one of the biggest (and most successful) comics publishers of 2018? We love the direct market and always will, but some of the best comics being produced right now are coming out on this very platform, and we love being a part of this indie, gonzo spirit. Plus, Kickstarter backers are the best. This is our direct pipeline to you, the readers.
*Cough* I mean, soldiers.
Glad you asked. First we will drive around town in our low-rider, windows down and music blaring as we wave it at everyone we see. After that, all funds go 100% towards fighting the war: paying the art and design team, printing the books, and shipping them to you. Anything above and beyond that will go towards the next battle, PBOW: WORLD WAR BITCH #2.
The Kickstarter Campaign: ~30 Days (July 16-August 16)
We here at the FRIED Diner are a cowardly and superstitious lot. We read somewhere that Kickstarter pages with a picture of a cat on them do better than others, so here’s a random picture of Clay’s cat:
Thanks for visiting the crazy world of PBOW. Check out the rewards and pledge with confidence. Together let’s Break Kickstarter and give birth to a bitchin’ book!
And remember…
Any Kickstarter comes with risk, but know this: we have a track record of finishing what we start. This is our sixth project on Kickstarter–all have been funded and fulfilled on time. The book is well into production already, and we’re confident we’ll make our schedule.
