Lottery.com, 5th Element Group PBC, and Oceans Ambassadors Alexandra and Philippe Cousteau Outline Plans for Innovative Fundraising Initiative
Reykjavik, Iceland — December 13, 2018. A consortium of social impact leaders converged in Iceland this week, with the goal of combating the increasing threats to the world’s oceans and supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals in new and innovative ways. Today, Lottery.com, 5th Element Group PBC, and Oceans Ambassadors Alexandra and Philippe Cousteau announce a public-private partnership aimed at raising awareness and critical funds to reverse the degradation of our global oceans. Details of how to participate will be available early next year.
Through Lottery.com’s unique Global Impact Platform, the group intends to raise significant funds to resource the most urgent work that needs to be done. Decade Of Women plans to use Lottery.com’s Global Impact Platform to gamify giving across multiple SDGs, beginning with this first Oceans Campaign, which aims to raise at least $100M USD in its first year.
Following the Nobel Peace Prize Forum on Climate Change, 5th Element Group PBC hosted the Decade Of Women Forum in Reykjavik. The Decade Of Women is a solutions-and-action initiative dedicated to completing the equity revolution. By staging its announcement at this Forum, the Global Oceans Campaign signaled its participation in a larger effort to promote gender equity, women in leadership, and the worldwide effort to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
“Iceland was selected as host for the Forum, as well as for the announcement of the Global Oceans Campaign, because of its commitment not only to Women’s equity, but also to global environmental conservation. The Country has been selected nine years in a row as a leader in gender equity and has announced a national focus on oceans conservancy,” said Decade Of Women co-founder, Amber Nystrom.
The Global Oceans Campaign exemplifies this whole group’s commitment to each of the SDGs, as well as addressing major humanitarian need, and Lottery.com is thrilled to provide the platform to do just that,” said forum participant and Lottery.com Chief Marketing Officer, Mel Brue.“ By using international games of chance, such as sweepstakes, lotteries, and raffle models, we can gamify giving in a crowdsource model like never before to fund strategic projects to protect our ocean habitats where they are most at risk.”
“We need to explore new ways to provide more funding to address crisis issues relating to our oceans,” said Global Oceans Ambassador Alexandra Cousteau. “This is one example of how we can mobilize micro-donors to this cause through the experience of gaming, and a community where donations can be made, while learning, experiences and prizes can be offered to participants.”
Alexandra Cousteau and her brother Philippe, also named at the launch as Global Oceans Raffle Ambassador, are the grandchildren of the famed oceans explorer Jacques Cousteau. Alexandra is a National Geographic explorer, multi-media storyteller, and Senior Advisor for Oceana, one of the largest ocean conservation organizations in the world. Philippe is a filmmaker, social entrepreneur and the co-founder and president of the leading youth environmental education organization EarthEcho International.
“The time is now to help educate people about what we can do, and why it matters to all of us,” said Elissa Harris, partner and Chief Impact Officer at 5th Element Group. “As a flagship brand delivering frontier tech solutions and funding to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, we’re proud to sponsor and help lead this epic endeavor.”
