Rist Cited for Modeling and Exponentiating Gender Equity for the Decade Of Women
Oslo, Norway. The Decade Of Women – a worldwide solutions campaign dedicated to completing the Equity Revolution – continues to announce recipients for its Quantum Impact Awards, sponsored by 5th Element Group, naming Rannveig Rist to its prestigious list of Award winners. Profiles as well as interview remarks from Rist have been released at www.DecadeOfWomen.org today.
Rannveig Rist offers a great example of how a person can use their influence to advance gender equity. Rist is known for being the first woman to occupy the top post in a large industrial corporation in Iceland. With a background in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iceland and an MBA from the University of San Francisco, Rist has powered through many male-dominated roles in her homeland, including being the first female officer on an Icelandic fishing vessel.
She now serves as the Independent Director at HB Grandi hf, and Chief Executive Officer at Rio Tinto Alcan á Íslandi hf, the global leader of aluminum mining. She is also a Lecturer at the University of Iceland and the Technical College in Reykjavik. She has extensive Board experience, with organizations including the Confederation of Icelandic Employers, The Icelandic Association of Aluminum Producers, Iceland Drilling and HB Grandi.
“Women are better educated than ever and technological development is faster than ever. It is crucial that women become very active in the technological field. Otherwise the technological development can further increase the gender gap. WE women have to make sure that does not happen,” said Rist.
As part of the Decade Of Women, the Quantum Impact Awards were created to honor those who show extraordinary heart for full gender equity and have gone to great lengths to use their influence to make meaningful change. The Quantum Impact Award is made of beautiful, age-old lava from Iceland, in recognition of the fact that Iceland has been declared the leading nation for gender equity for the past nine years.
“Although we feel we still have long way to go here to reach gender equality, the Nordic countries are ranked among the best in the world. So at the same time as we are working hard in improving the situation here we can support others,” Rist continues. “The Decade Of Women is a promising platform. We have to keep the dialog going. To receive this award is encouraging. I will carry on paving the way for other woman towards gender equality!”
Rannveig Rist is living the mission of the Decade Of Women and collaborations are anticipated throughout the next decade and beyond.
