Shrine of Orm is a turn based first person dungeon crawler with heavy emphasis on horror and exploration.
This game is a single player Horror/Rpg, Turn-Based, Tile-Based, First-Person Dungeoncrawler. It is inspired by games such as the infamous Wizardry series, Etrian Odyssey, the Dark Spire, etc.
Currently I’ve put the game up on Steam greenlight, and if it’s greenlit, Shrine of Orm will be first available on Steam.
Speaking of which, Shrine of Orm is up on Steam Greenlight in the concept category. If you like what you see, please go there and give it a vote.

Kickstarter brought many games that wouldn’t have existed due to their outdated/niche genre. It can bring back the type of games we used to love in the old days. Gaming industry is a big business, and games such as this can’t be equally treated as other more popular genre from the publishers perspective. Kickstarter gives the opportunity to break free from this, and offer the gamers what they want. That is why I chose to put this up on kickstarter.
At this moment, Shrine of Orm is in prototype stage, and to continue developing, I will need your help to bring it to life.
In the Shrine of Orm, there are 6 races and 11 classes. Each of them have different stats and you further customize by adding a set number of stats to the character.
Each races and classes have different skills and spells. Find your own combination that fits your playstyle. There will be many weapons and armor with different advantages and disadvantages at your disposal. Finding the best counter to the enemy may be needed at times.
Aside from fighting horrific enemies, you will have to survive the maze-like dungeon as well. Traps, hidden doors, and many other obstacles will encourage you to be aware of the layout of the map and your surroundings. Managing your resources may be a key essential for your survival.
Sound will be a big part of knowing what is hidden in plain sight. Knocking on some walls may have different sounds to them. Mysterious clicking sound out of nowhere. Who knows what that means.
Video talking about the gameplay mechanics a little more in-depth
1. Character Creation
2. Combat and Dungeon System
I come from an animator background, and I believe bringing animated cutscenes to the game will enhance the experience. They will be hand drawn, while the background might be in CG like in the trailer above. There won’t be much, but it will be there on important moments of the game.
Not everything in the game will be animated like the cutscenes. Enemy or the player character sprites will not be animated, but their skill/spell effects will. The reason enemies or player characters are not animated is because there will be so much work and so little time.
The Shrine of Orm existed since before the settlement of Eormenscrin. The bond between the shrine maidens of Orm and the people of the realm was, without a doubt, unbind-able ……or so it was told.
Lamina, the High Priestess of Orm, hid within the Shrine soon after the murder of prince Edmund, and encompasses the shrine with madness, turning any trapped living beings into crazed zealots.
A Mercenary guild is established by the King of Eormenscrin, Edgard III. The hired adventurers are to investigate, search and eliminate the cause of the madness with the help of the sane shrine maidens.
Will these adventurers survive long enough to succeed on their quest?
This is a 2 year long project. This will mostly be done by myself, if needed I will find hands that can help. Currently the basic structure of the game and the storyline is worked enough that I can add and finesse contents without any hiccups.
All of the assets(except for the dungeon itself) in the game will be hand drawn(including special effects). There are Enemy sprites, spell effects, character portraits, npc sprites, backgrounds, dungeon design, and some events that are waiting to be finished. This is the time soundtracks will be created as well. Currently soundtracks will be created by myself, but this may change. Creating all the assets should take about 7-8 months.
Further programming and playtesting all the aspects of the game will take about 14-16 months. Since there are a lot of enemies, character classes/races, abilities and weapons to balance, this will be the most time I will spend on for this project.
The remaining months will be used to prepare for the kickstarter rewards and further more playtesting.
From the point the kickstarter project is funded, I will try to post kickstarter updates every month and devblog every week to give any news or update.
Here are the funds breakdown
Kickstarter + Fees: 5% from Kickstarter and approximately another 4% from processing fee
Rewards: 12% This will be used to order physical rewards, etc. It will heavily depend on how many decide to choose Tier 6 or above.
Shipping: 9% This part is only an assumption and may vary depending on how many people wish to choose the Tier 6 or above rewards.
Safety Margin: 10% Things can go wrong, whether it’s from shipping, tax, or ordering stuffs. This money will be reserved for situations like that. My assumption is it will be used for shipping.
Tax: 20% This one is quite self explanatory. 20% is only a rough guess, and may fluctuate on the rewards and shipping cost.
Development: 40% This is for buying approximately 40000 cupnoodles and 700 mtn dew. Well, maybe not that much. This is for me to pay my bills and put food on my table. This is not much, but it’s just enough for me to work on this project for 2 years. This includes development software licensing cost such as Unity.
If you back the project, here are the rewards you can expect to be delivered by early 2019. They are mostly digital rewards aside from the last 3 tiers. This is because shipping cost isn’t something to be underestimated. There are many kickstarter horror stories revolving around shipping rewards and I don’t want that to affect the quality of the project.

Tier 5 $60

This is like Tier 4 but with actual footage of me explaining the process of making the assets of the game, and some sneak peak on very early builds of the Shrine of Orm. Plus, I will put your name in the game credits for backing 4 times more of what you actually need to pay to play the game.

If you wish to have most of your rewards in physical format as well(like myself I might add), this tier is for you. The reason the physical copy rewards are all concentrated in this tier is because shipping is costly.

***This does not include shipping cost***

Tier 7 $350
-Tier 1~6 rewards
-Physical artbook signed
-Original sketch
Are you interested in really supporting the project? There’s not much more I can offer, but I will sign the artbook and slip in an original sketch of Shrine of Orm in the package. Keep in mind I may have to fold the original sketch to fit it into the package.
***This does not include shipping cost***

Tier 8 $350
-Tier 1~6 rewards
-Physical artbook signed
-In-game portrait of the backer
This is like Tier7 but for people who want to participate in the project in some way. Once you choose this tier I will create an in-game character portrait to your likeness/or based off of your idea. Your idea may be subject to modification to fit to the Shrine of Orm universe, but we will talk about it and work together. Also, the rewards image above are only for reference and does not represent the actual looking of the final product.
***The finished portraits are not exclusive to the Tier 8 backers, meaning they will be available for anyone who buy the game.***
***This does not include shipping cost***
There is none at the moment. I would much like to focus on what is in my hand and not spread the butter too thin by adding more content to the game. The excess funds will be used for beta testing and the sorts.
Currently I plan to put this out on Steam. After that I would like to put it on other platform such as Gog. Having this on console is in consideration, but this is undecided. After that, I plan to have translations for this game in different languages.
Tilfinning(or just Till)
My real name is Young Cin, and my profession is an Animator. Some of the notable titles I worked for as an animator are Skull Girls by Reverge Labs, and an animated short film called Caged Pillow by Galen Pehrson. I was very lucky to work with talented people such as them.
I’ve been a gamer since I was born. I grew up with many masterpieces like the SNES Final Fantasy series, Baldur’s Gate series, and some not well known title in the west such as the Farland Saga series, and PC98 titles such as Dark Serahim and First Queen series.
Through this opportunity I’d like to be part of the gaming community not as a gamer this time, but as a developer to bring new and exciting content.
Like many projects, building a game is a risky business. There is not much experience I can bring in terms of game making but I will make it up by considering all the possible things needed/thought about to minimize the risks.
There might be release date delays and what not, but I will make sure it is not by a lot. If it does happen, the time is spent on polishing and improving the game. I will give you an update of the details. Translations and porting to consoles will bring further risk to the project, so I won’t post the release date for those just now. They will all be considered after the game is live.
