FTC Antitrust veteran Monica M. Castillo van Panhuys joins Kesselman Brantly Stockinger LLP

— Veteran FTC lawyer joins antitrust boutique and expands its capabilities —

Manhattan Beach, Calif.Kesselman Brantly Stockinger LLP (KBS), a leading antitrust and business litigation firm, announces the addition of veteran Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) Antitrust Lawyer, Monica M. Castillo van Panhuys. KBS represents family-owned and publicly traded companies in antitrust and unfair competition disputes, competition counseling, and complex business and real estate litigation.

From 2008 to 2018, Ms. van Panhuys worked for the FTC in Washington D.C., investigating mergers, negotiating divestitures, and challenging unlawful mergers and anticompetitive practices. During her years of government service, Ms. van Panhuys investigated an array of industries in merger and data security actions including software, semiconductors, aluminum containers, paint, coal, as well as online job, dating, and gaming applications. Her team’s efforts in its litigations against Ardagh and St. Gobain resulted in a substantial divestiture preventing the further concentration of the U.S. glass container market. Ms. van Panhuys was also a member of the FTC’s In re: McWane trial team that stopped dominant ductile iron pipe fitting manufacturers from using unlawful agreements to harm competitors.

“I am thrilled to join KBS’s sophisticated team of antitrust and unfair competition lawyers and contribute to the firm’s growth,” said Ms. van Panhuys. “After more than a decade of public service, I am ready to begin the next chapter of my career.  I have known Amy Brantly and David Kesselman for a very long time and I am excited to help KBS expand its antitrust practice, representing clients facing government antitrust investigations and counseling on prospective mergers.”

“We are thrilled to have Monica join our firm.  Monica is an exceptional antitrust lawyer and adding her expertise as a former government enforcer really enhances our capabilities as a firm,” said partner David W. Kesselman. Added partner Amy T. Brantly, “It’s rare to have the opportunity to work with a very old friend who is such an accomplished lawyer in the field.  With Monica leading the way, we now fully expect to offer merger and Hart-Scott-Rodino services to clients who need regulatory expertise, but with the personalized service and economical cost structure that we can provide as a boutique firm.”

Ms. van Panhuys obtained her J.D. from American University’s Washington College of Law in Washington, DC and she completed her undergraduate studies at Duke University.
