It’s been three years since I put out an original album, eek!! I had a spell of writers’ block, and then I had a baby, all the while maintaining an active patreon full of mostly cover songs. BUT — there are definitely enough original songs now to make a gorgeous album, with 8-10 that I’ve already written and 2-3 more.
This is my first original album since the Patreon, and it will be interesting to turn these songs I felt pressure to put out quickly into a cohesive album. I suspect some of these songs may end up as bonus tracks. Regardless, I will need to spend a good deal of time re-recording vocals and fixing mixes. Being entirely self-produced, I am able to make things almost perfect, for the ideal presentation of every song.
What do I need all this money for?
• $7,000 CD/vinyl/shirt/sticker pressing
• $1,000 mastering (both for CD and vinyl)
• $600 photography
• $6,000 living expenses while I do all the re-recording, mixing, graphic design, etc, and miss a few Patreon song opportunities to get this done
• $1,400 marketing budget
I’ve had about a dozen successful kickstarters, and always hold myself to extremely high standards as far as satisfying backers. Custom rewards like songpoems sometimes take an extra few months, sometimes international mail takes a long time, and the vinyl for The Fires I Started was WAY later than I’d wanted it to be, but otherwise I’ve been great at sticking to my promised schedules.
