When students enter room 201, they know that they will explore the world of mathematics through problem solving that is relevant to their lives. And yet, the problems they will be needed to help solve have yet to be defined. What we do know, is that mathematics will beat the center of these solutions, as well as technology.
My students are energetic, kind, and motivated to work hard!
At a school where over 70% of the students are on free or reduced-price lunch, students often have little to no access to digital tools outside of our classroom. On top of this, the school’s class sizes are typically larger than others, with an average of 35 students in each class. Unfortunately, even in the classroom, there are not enough mathematical tools for every student to use. By helping provide my students with these tools inside the classroom, I hope to provide them the opportunities necessary to find mathematical success!
Last year I was able to utilize my Master Teacher’s Document Camera with great success. I am hoping to implement teaching strategies where students regularly share and explain their mathematical thinking with the class in different modalities. Having a Document Camera is a necessary piece of technology that will allow for this experience. Students LOVE sharing their work and the Ladibug Doc Camera is the perfect tool. They just walk up and put their written notes under the camera for display to the whole class. It’s a perfect way to get students involved by building confidence and pride in their hard work.
Students will also take advantage of the Ladibug’s recording capabilities in their presentations.
Students will be able to record their work digitally and have it sent to their online portal. This is where our students build their digital portfolio that they will take with them to high school and college.
Finally, I am excited to have purchased a Rocketwave notebook that allows me to take notes and directly upload them to my class’s website. Having the Ladibug Doc Camera will allow me to create class notes with the students, then directly upload them to their website. This will be key for students who are absent or others who need to review the material presented in class. Without the document camera, I will present information via our white board where it will simply be erased. I would really love the opportunity to provide students and parents with the class strategies uploaded from our lessons on a regular basis.
