Give Doc a Home: Build a home for B-29 Doc
Building B-29 Doc a permanent home to honor heroes, and connect, educate and inspire generations to come.
About this project
The new home for Doc will be an interactive B-29 Hangar and Education Center. Your gift will help us finalize our flight plan. Generations to come will have the opportunity to enjoy and experience this prominent figure in our nation’s history. B-29 Doc will act as a back drop inside the center for the public to enjoy bits of science, technology, engineering and mathematics that go hand-in-hand with aviation.
Wichita’s unique aviation history, one-of-a-kind workforce and donors from across the world made it possible to rebuild and restore Doc. Retired aviation workers and countless other volunteers spent more than 350,000 hours working to bring the B-29 Doc back to life. Now, as one of only two flyable B-29 Superfortresses, it’s time to build a home for Doc.
With your help, we can make the B-29 Doc Hangar and Education Center a reality.
Risks and challenges
Over the past 17 years, volunteers have spend more than 350,000 hours restoring this warbird. Now, we are the verge of giving their hard work a permanent home.
The 32,000 sq ft facility will be located in Wichita, KS. Pending final design approval, construction is expected to begin in September of this year and be completed in September of 2018. As with any construction project, weather could delay the project, but a weather contingency plan is built into the timeline.
