HOW IT ALL BEGAN
We have all heard the alarming statistics of domestic violence, not only in Australia but all over the world.
Most of us either know someone or are victims of domestic violence ourselves.
One man, from the small suburb of Epping in Victoria Australia, had a vision to help change all this.
Jose (J) Perez, owner of JG3 customs, a passionate, humble and caring family man and custom car creator wanted to build an ambulance that represented hope for families and victims who are suffering at the hand of domestic violence in their own homes.
J, his brother Vic, son Josh in the ‘Ambulance of Hope’, will drive over 2,500km accross rural Australia visiting many communities and raise much needed awareness and funds for ‘White Ribbon’ and the prevention of domestic violence.
Director & Producer Natasha Ferré-Bentley from 3 Sides Media & Productions got wind of this incredible story of compassion and hope and is now creating a feature documentary to be seen on TV screens around the world, ‘The Hot Lap for Hope’, so that the message will keep on spreading far and wide.
And so the story begins.
THE STORY SO FAR…
The adventure will begin in the tiny workshop of JG3 in Epping, where Jay, his family, crew
and the many fans and volunteers will be working on tirelessly to get the ‘Ambo’ up and
going in ONLY 2 weeks. With a whole lot of hope, determination and skill, they will get her on the
road and hopefully make their way from Victoria to remote rural towns in Australia
where people may not have the same opportunities and access to ‘White Ribbon’ and the
amazing work that they do. Here Jay, his brother Vic and son Josh will bring much heartfelt awareness for
‘domestic violence’ with their fully reconstructed and decked out ambulance. The ambulance will not only be an entertaining spectacular itself coming fully equipped with lounge chairs, kitchen and laser light show but also be a safe space for women and men to be in and talk about domestic violence. To add to the attraction, Josh a professional latin dancer will also putting on a performance of a lifetime at each stop with his own spectacular live show, again to raise awareness for this cause.
So with your donations and luck and a lot skill on their side, the trio will drive over 2500km where the ‘Ambulance of Hope’
will land in the Australian Red Centre, Alice Springs to one of the biggest car meets in the
southern hemisphere ‘The Red Centrenats’ 2017. It is there where the real fun and work will begin as they put the Ambo to the ultimate test and see if it can make a hot lap around the ‘Nat track’ in front of a captured audience of thousands….
Will they get the Ambulance of Hope on the road in time?
Will they make it that far?
What will we find out along the way about doemstic violence, its survivors and what we can do to prevent it?
And will the Ambulance also be able to cut it around the track?
Only one way to find out….
WHY SUPPORT?
We know the numbers around domestic violence in Australia are horrifying. That one in six and one in 20 men, have experienced violence from a current or former partner since the age of 15.
That more than one woman dies every week on account of violence.
In 2015, 80 women died from violence. It is estimated 80 per cent of these deaths were cases of domestic violence.
In 2016, 71 women died.
This is alarming statistics.
We know reports of domestic violence have increased in the last decade.
In 1995, there were 257 reports of domestic assault per 100,000 people in NSW. In 2014, that figure had become 400.
Victoria shows the same trend. There were 70,906 reported incidences of domestic violence between 2013
and 2015, and an 8.8 increase from 2013-14 to 2014-15.
All this is overshadowed by the fact so much domestic abuse is left unreported.
According to a 2013 survey from the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research, of 300 victims attending NSW domestic violence services, only half reported their most recent incident to police. The most common reason for keeping quiet? Fear of revenge or further violence.
As well as this, the ABS Personal Safety Survey showed 95 per cent of men and 80 per cent of women who had experienced violence from a current partner had never contacted the police.
Then there’s emotional abuse and financial abuse and sexual abuse. Where the absence of physical bruising makes the abuse more difficult to identify, less likely to be discussed, hardly ever reported.
Awareness. Yes, it’s one of those words we always hear and say and write down as an-easy-to-swallow solution to complex problems. But in this case, awareness is key.
The only way to change that 95 per cent of men and 80 per cent of women who’ve never contacted the police? To talk about it. To tell the stories of survivors who have been in that exact same position, and gotten out. To show the options: This is what’s possible and this is how it’s done.
Awareness feeds into education.
WHY WHITE RIBBON?
We need to stop violence against women before it happens
This is the work of primary prevention and it is where the work of White Ribbon Australia is focused.
So what is primary prevention?
Prevention and response to violence can be classified in a number of ways, for example:
Primary prevention action is implemented before violence against women occurs and aims to stop the likelihood of men and boys using violence against women and girls. This prevention action does this by addressing the root causes of violence
The White Ribbon social movement and programs focus on primary prevention.
Primary prevention at work
Examples of primary prevention include:
public information and awareness raising campaigns
educational programs in schools
programs in workplaces
government policy establishing frameworks and standards for preventing violence against women and promoting gender equality.
Through education, awareness raising and creative campaigns, preventative programs, partnerships and political advocacy, White Ribbon Australia highlights the positive role men can play to stop violence against women and enables them to be part of this social change.
Jose (Jay), his brother Vic and thousands of supporters world wide believe that raising awareness and discussing these matters can start to make a difference that is needed. White Ribbon are on the forefront of change which is why Jay is supporting them and this cause.
MEET THE TEAM
J was born into a family of couture leather Artisans & designers in Ubrique Spain.
From an early age J had a hands on approach to life technically minded and a dreamer but not very good at school and ended up dropping out.
But Creativeness & Innovation and that Andalusian passion was in his blood.
After a string of jobs in different industries that honed his talents, J finally found his calling and took that artisan historical flair for creativity into a completely different area, Cars.
Working from his garage J began to mix his artisan and fashion skills into all his modifications.
His name soon became synonymous with a quality finish on a shoe string budget and the phrase JG3MAGIC was born.
It didn’t take long to outgrow the small garage, so he moved to a small workshop in the backstreets of Epping in Melbourne with little money no fancy equipment and a dream.
J’s philosophy was simple, to build cool cars that are accessible to the average person.
The workshop has grown with a few more fabricators working their jg3magic.
But you will still find no fancy equipment in the workshop and they still use their creative skills to make things out nothing and still on a shoe string budget taking it to the limit.
J’s passion to help others has led him to become an advocate to bring awareness to Domestic Violence and a Zero tolerance to Bullying.
The internets had given J the opportunity to show his work on a global scale and in return we have been blessed to have met many celebrities and influential friends along the way who love what we do.
Using the builds and celebrity friends star power to bring awareness to the cause where ever possible.
His campaign “Mate that’s not acceptable behavior , say No To Domestic Violence” is all about Prevention.
Dreamer, Designer but most importantly he’s a Doer, taking it to the limit for one more ride .
His baby brother Vic Perez and not only works at JG3 customs but shares Jay’s dreams and passions for a future of NO domestic Violence and works at JG3 and will be his companion on the greatest road trip for Hope.
