If you told me that I was going to run the Boston Marathon back to back I would have called you crazy. If you had told me that I was going to run Boston with one of my high school student’s I probably would of laughed out loud. I never would have imagined going after Chicago again but here it is. I couldn’t be more excited about running with Team Bright Pink again.
This year before I had even completed my second Boston Marathon one of my students whom I mentor and marathon train looked at me and asked “Ms. Kee, will you run Chicago with me?” Of course my immediate reaction was “Really?”. Luna is a 16 year old sophomore and come October we will both run and cross the finish line 26.2 together.
Luna and I have spent many a week day run together talking and laughing and getting to know each other. Luna knows that I myself have had a lump removed and knows about my journey with Team Bright Pink in 2015 and how much this organization means to me. When you spend hours with someone running and training you separate the student/teacher relationship and the bond of being a mentor replaces it. It’s far more special than being a coach or a volunteer and words can’t really dinfine the feeling it brings you especially when you are able to give the gift of running a marathon together.
I’m so unbelievably thankful to be healthy, to be a positive role model in these teenagers lives, and look forward to sharing this amazing journey with this incredible hard working teen. Thank you for visiting my page and please consider making a donation to this amazing organization.
