Local and global musicians, artists, speakers, institutions, and brands align for Ibiza’s first philanthropic concert-event
IBIZA, SPAIN – On July 20th, 2017, the non-profit organization Oceanic Global Foundation will bring together leading musicians, conservationists, speakers, artists, institutions, and brands for a day-long festival, titled Oceanic x Ibiza, to raise awareness and ignite action ocean conservation. The SDG Media Zone team will be on the ground reporting live with digital coverage including interviews and behind the scenes the footage of Ibiza’s first concert-even to benefit a philanthropic cause. Powered by a partnership between the Office of the President of the General Assembly, United Nations Department of Public Information, United Nations Foundation and the PVBLIC Foundation, the SDG Media Zone will shed light on Oceanic Globals’ innovative and solution-oriented approach to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals.
Taking place just a month after the SDG Media Zone: Oceans hosted from June 5th – 8th at the United Nations Ocean Conference, the partnership between Oceanic Global and the SDG Media Zone will continue to engage commitments and advance the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14) which calls for efforts to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources.

Oceanic x Ibiza will be headlined by award-winning house music DJ, Solomun, with feature performances by BLOND:ISH and DJ Valentin Huedo. The event will incorporate an expert speaker series, captivating art installations, virtual reality and augmented reality content, an artisan marketplace, film screenings, a designated children’s section, and activations by Oceanic Global’s NGO partners on-site. Oceanic x Ibiza is set to take place on July 20th from 4:30pm – 12:00 am at Blue Marlin Ibiza & Yemanja in the beautiful Cala Jondal bay. PROGRAMMING & ACTIVATIONS
NGO & Institutional Partnerships:
Oceanic x Ibiza is the first of the non-profit’s city-by-city immersive experience series. Oceanic Global has partnered with a number of local and global institutions and organizations to engage the local community and ignite global action. Partners for the inaugural experience include: The United Nations Environment Programme, The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Aquarius, Mission Blue, Bloom Association, Oceana, Beneath the Waves, Ibiza Preservation Fund, Lonely Whale, The Ocean Alliance, Plastic Oceans, Goldfish from Pluto, Gen-Gob Evissa, Green Heart Ibiza, The Abel Matutes Foundation, Proatso, The Ibiza Film Festival, and Ecovissa.
Speaker Series & Film Screenings:
Oceanic x Ibiza’s on-site speaker series will feature talks and panel discussions on ocean-related issues from over 20 leading conservationists from around the world. Confirmed speakers include: Actor & Co-Founder of Lonely Whale Foundation, and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador, Adrian Grenier, Oceana Board Member Susan Rockefeller, National Geographic Photographer Manu San Felix, Plastic Bank Founder David Katz, Parsons School of Design Dean Burak Cakmak and Petter Malvik from the United Nations Clean Seas Campaign. Film partners including Plastic Oceans will screen footage from their films in between talks.
Art Installations:
Artists including Alvaro Soler Arpa, Jorges P. Bruges, Soundwalk Collective, Roseline de Thelin, Russell Ord, Marc Osmo, and Joe Crossley will all display work that draws attention to the issues impacting our oceans. Oceanic Global has partnered with elementary schools on the island to incorporate oceanic education into their curricula, facilitate beach clean-ups, and encourage students to create art installments made of ocean plastics, which will be displayed on-site. Students from New York’s Parsons School of Design will also showcase fashion fabricated from upcycled plastics during the festival’s programming.
Experiencing the Next Wave in Technology:
Leveraging immersive technology as an innovative means of engagement, Oceanic Global will display 10 Augmented Reality experiences as well as 360 virtual reality stations at the venue. The augmented reality will shed light 10 issues our ocean is currently facing, while the virtual reality content will demonstrate the delicate beauty of our oceans with the objective of inspiring empathy for our underwater world. All original content is developed in partnership with Oceanic Global’s Scientific Advisory Board.
Children’s Activities:
A designated children’s section on-site will feature a live performance and audience interactions in partnership with Oceanic Global’s Broadway-show partner, Goldfish from Pluto. Ibiza’s local Morna Valley School will display a 12-meter-long art-piece constructed from plastic water bottles recycled as part of Oceanic Global’s ocean education curriculum. Student participants will be on-site to share their individual artwork made from upcycled ocean plastics. Additional activities in the children’s section include: face-painting, puppets, arts & crafts and Mermaid meet-and-greets.
Eco-Boulevard:
Ocean Global has invited 20 international and local businesses on the forefront of sustainable innovation to present their respective work at the festival. Their wares highlight solutions in the spaces of food, fashion, technology, and consumer goods. Standout brands include EcoAlf, Sustainable Flow Limited, Cano Water and Good Water.
