Sponsored walk for Kenyan orphans: To give money to Kenyan orphans, in my friend’s village, for school uniforms and food.
Many thanks to our sponsors so far. We reached our initial target of £500. We did the sponsored walk yesterday and people are still wanting to donate. So I have stretched the target. All the money we raise will go directly to helping the orphans in Kikoko village to enable them to go to school. Thanks.
Thirty years ago I was a teacher in Kenya where I met my friend Cecilia, the school matron. She now works at a school in Hertfordshire, and she goes home to Kenya every summer to see her family. She raises money to take to the orphans in her village, these children are very poor and have lost either one parent or both parents to AIDS. Cecilia’s teenage daughter raised money that was used to put windows into the school building and to buy desks for the classrooms.
This year Cecilia has invited me and my daughter Emily (age 13) to go to Kenya with her to stay in her village. So we are also raising money to take to the orphans, for school uniform and food. Emily and I are organising a sponsored walk, for us and some of our friends to walk about 10 miles of the Sheffield Round walk on sunday 25th June. Starting in Endcliffe Park ending in Meersbrook Park.
Would you like to join us on the walk and raise some money for the Kenyan orphans?
Or please will you sponsor us? Suggested amount £1 per mile, or a total of £10. Or any donation will be much appreciated.
These children are very poor and going to school is very important for them. Cecilia took these photos of the children in her village. Emily and I cannot wait to meet them and help them out with school uniforms and food.
