Title: Monument
Genre: Documentary
Format: Interactive webdoc
Number of episodes: 4
Duration per episode: 10-15 mins
Target: Men and women, between 25 and 34 years, attracted to the format and transmedia strategy and older people, attracted to the content and themes.
Monument is you and your stories.
When you want to know what really matters, the daily and the closest, what happened in the neighbor town… there are two ways: going out and ask, or discovering it through Monument.
The content is meant to be a conversation between our lead and other collaborators. This will be possible thanks to the viewers interaction, who will decide what they want to hear and what they want to see, since there will be also other types of additional content available, like in depth infographics about the subjects talked about.
Monument is born to honor the everyday person, that’s why the documentaries are the fundamental piece of our audiovisual content, a very important pillar to our project. Each episode will have its own title sequence and opening credits according to the episode. On the website, there will a section available with the full credits, for whoever is interested.
When a user leaves the online world, what should be remembered first is the story, and then the design. For this, we have chosen a sincere, clean design, which works as a vehicle to get the information through, without distracting.
The previous image is a sketch of the web’s homepage.
Starting with this reasoning for the website’s design, the idea behind it is very simple: a humanized online place. Upon opening the website, the user will find themself with a Galician villa, that they may or may not now, and they will spend a few minutes there getting to know its neighbors. That’s why it’s important to prioritize the closeness of the design, leaving the visual impact to the protagonists of the stories, and where the infographics stand out for their effortless and simplistic charm.
In the website, there will also be a Corporate Identity Manual, available in pdf, for anyone that wishes to use our logo.
Since the people we’re interviewing are the most important aspect of our webdoc, there will be a short biography available of them, so that the viewer/user can feel closer to them and the stor.
Monument is a webdoc divided by seasons, in which each episode develops in different counties of Galicia. This crowdfunding is destined to cover the expenses of the first season, that counts with 4 episodes in the counties of Ferrol, Santiago, Ortegal and Vigo.
The contents of these episodes will touch Ferrol’s ria problematic, the irregularities in Sar’s river sewage treatment, the difficulties that the barnacle fishers encounter in Ortegal’s coast, and Vigo’s port merchandise traffic problems.
The main language will be Galician, in which all our material will be made in. However, to make the viewing easier for the people that don’t understand the language, the webdoc will have subtitles, both in English and Spanish, but the rest (social networks, merchandising…) will be in Galician only, since our main audience is the one in our autonomous community.

The total budget of our Final Year Project is about 25000 euros, the human resources will be settled with the capitalization of work of the members of the project, and a few collaborators.
Regarding the technical equipment and other necessities (around 11000 euros) before the distribution period, will be settled by our own capital, equipment cessions and crowdfunding.
The money collected from this crowdfunding will basically cover the most relevant expenses during filming (gasoline, accommodation in Vigo, phone calls, photocopies, food, web hosting, web domain…) and for the upcoming expenses during de screening and distribution period.
With all the Monument tools we’re providing to you, you’re all set to visit each and every one of these places, and check if Ferrol’s ria is being depurated or not, if the Sar river is just like Rosalía described it, if you’d dare to eat a barnacle after seeing the waves crash in the cape, or if when crossing the Rande bridge, you wonder what those ships are carrying.
Carry your backpack, protect your cellphone and charge it on the go, write down what you see, and wear with pride your Monument t-shirt, which is you, and your stories.
And even better, thanks to the collaboration with Cabanas do Barranco you can enjoy an immersive experience in nature, in a privileged environment. An amazing opportunity overall.
Our rewards include:
Every contribution of 25 euros or more will be participating for a chance to win a voucher for a night at Cabanas do Barranco. A beautiful compound of tree houses, located in Outes, A Coruña, a place surrounded with peace and tranquility in nature.
This voucher is valued at 130 euros.
All patrons will receive this reward
Besides the mention in the DVD’s special thanks, anyone that contributes with 10 euros will receive access to the webdoc before its official premiere.
In this case, being a very interesting reward, but also one that requires a lot of work, there will be different ways to obtain it:
Contributing with 30 euros or more, along with other various gifts. Contributing with the amounts of 15 euros and 25 euros, only the first five interested patrons can opt for this reward.
For the patron to choose which collaborator’s interview transcript they’re interested in, we will obviously first publish officially the webdoc online, and then, we will reach out to each one of them via email, so they let us know which one they want.
Obtaining this reward does not grant the patron any of the rights of the project, that means none of the content in the transcripted interviews can appear in press, radio, television, or any other audiovisual medium without prior consent of the authors of Monument and of course, the interviewee.
People that contribute with 20 euros will obtain 3 VIP seats, being the very own patron the one to decide if they prefer 3 seats in the same screening, a seat in three different screenings, or 2 seats in a screening and another in a different one.
For those contributing with 15 euros or amounts over 20 euros you will obtain a VIP seat in an exhibition.
This content is obviously subject to availability. In a venue with a total capacity of 100 people, there can’t be 200 VIP seats. So, we will prioritize our patrons according to the contribution order. We will contact them via email, to know their preference in screenings, then the patron must reply with this information, and they will obtain their VIP seat as long as there are seats available in the screening they choose, if not, they will have to choose another one.
The seats will be reserved by name, but if the patron wants someone else to enjoy this reward, they can give out their name.
Only the patrons collaborating with 100 euros or more will obtain this reward.
Each Association pack will receive 5 DVD’s.
This reward is also part of the Association pack. Despite its name, every person interested in the talks, either establishment owners, schools, associations, press, etc. can be patron of this pack.
The patrons that contribute with 500 euros will be the only beneficiaries of a dinner with the creators. In this dinner you will meet us, talk about the experience, enjoy a wonderful dinner, propose ideas, talk about new/future projects, etc.
And now that you know the most important aspects of the project, it’s time to introduce ourselves. The creators, who you will have the opportunity to have dinner with if you contribute with 500 euros are:
Since this is a Final Year Project, our production calendar started months ago, so our filming and editing period will finish this june. During this time we’ve been publishing additional content to our social media Facebook and Instagram, that will extend through the broadcasting and distribution period, but after launching the website, we will stop posting twice a week and go back to posting once a week, which will be wednesdays at noon. Currently, we’re posting on wednesdays and fridays. The approximate dates for the website launch are between july and august; this being the main content of our project, with an easy and interactive navigation.
If all goes accordingly, on september 21st we will present the project to the jury at Coruña’s University, and after that, we will be doing screenings in different parts of Galicia, of a more linear version of the documentary, that will also serve as a meeting point for patrons, participants, interested people, and of course, the creators.
Monument’s team will also go back to all the recording sites, not only for the contributors to watch the final project, but also, because during the filming period, there were also people interested in doing screenings in these cities. This type of “second exploitation”, to give it a name, makes the whole slogan idea effective, and the concept of bringing the product to the people so they get to know the problematic, their own problematic sometimes. Even though this product is meant to be consumed online, in its website, any other type of exhibition, like physical and in person is totally necessary.
Lastly, and in a time table much more open, the documentary will be sent to different contests and festivals that have to do with the genre, theme, and treatment, as long as the organizers allow our participation. Next, is a list of the festivals, contests, and screening circuits that we’re most interested for, for the upcoming year, 2018:
Play-Doc, Festival de Cans, Curtas Armadiña, Festival Internacional de Cine Rural Carlos Velo, Olloboi, Carballo Interplay, Semana Internacional de cine de autor de Lugo, Mostra de Curtametraxes do Ateneo Ferrolán, Cineuropa, Curtocircuito, Mostra de Cine de Monforte de Lemos, Chanfaina Lab, Novos cinemas and Mostra de Cine Etnográfico do Museo do Pobo Galego.
Concerning the rewards, they will be sent out as soon as possible, after finishing the croudfunding campaign, setting our limit date in the month of october. This doesn’t include the VIP screening seats, which will depend on what screening the patron decides to assist.
The conceptual framework in which Monument’s idea devolps, is encompassed by the closed-themed seasons. In this first season, we treat Galicia’s acuatic environment.
Our first source of information was the general knowledge of the people about each of these subjects, then we looked more in depth in journals, news, and platforms that support these causes, laws, publications like the DOG and promulgations of the Board and the Government of Spain and its different regulating organs.
We give special importance to newspapers archives, where, as Galician citizens, we see that there wasn’t enough attention drawn to these subjects through the years. The little things.
As additional content we have designed and prototyped an app in regards to the webdoc. With this app, our viewers/users can share important aspects about their county that they would like us to talk about in upcoming seasons, also having the opportunity to upload pictures, without previously creating an account, meaning they can freely upload pictures, which will be moderated by the team. The users will be able to have access to the routes we’ve done for each season, meaning they can visit them, and play games which will give them points.
The previous image is part of one of the design tryouts.
We won’t be developing the actual app, since we don’t have the necessary programming knowledge, but we would happily accept the help of any expert in the subject that would like to be a part of Monument’s technical team, supporting through their work, the making of the app we’ve previously designed.
