The new North Cornwall Dance Festival will bring the community together, boost local businesses and encourage young people to reach for the stars.
What is the North Cornwall Dance Festival?
The primary aim of the Festival is to encourage the study and performance of dance by providing an opportunity for competitors to perform prepared pieces in public, in a friendly atmosphere. There will also be opportunities for competitors to take part in masterclasses throughout the week.
The Festival will have classes for all ages and abilities and entries are welcome from all sources including teachers, schools, societies and individuals.
Each performer will receive constructive criticism from an expert adjudicator, and prizes or trophies are awarded to winners of classes.
The festival will run from 10th – 19th February 2018 and will be held at St. Joseph’s School, Launceston.
Why?
My daughter has been performing in competitive dance festivals since she was 4 years old. She loves them. For her it’s about the costumes, the thrill of performing pieces she’s rehearsed for months and the possibility that she may win a medal. What she doesn’t realise is that she is gaining vital life skills. She’s learning about discipline. She’s finding that she can work well in a team and as an individual. She’s gaining the confidence to stand up in front of a room full of people and perform a song or a dance. She’s already able to deal with the disappointment of not winning a medal this time, but knowing that if she works hard, she might win next time. All this and more.
There aren’t many competitive dance festivals in the South West and so many children are missing out on this fantastic learning experience. That is why we decided to launch the North Cornwall Dance Festival.
The people behind the festival
Experienced Dance teacher & owner of Mcqueen’s Theatre School, Rachel Oles, professional performer, teacher & owner of Absolute Dance, Joanne Phillips and West End production veteran Jessica Chu are the team behind the festival. With our combined passion for dance and experience in producing large scale shows and events we are the perfect team to organise this exciting new festival.
Why we are crowdfunding?
As with all ventures of this type, there is a huge amount of work involved and it’s not without it’s costs. This is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to back a community project and invest in the future of our youngsters.
Sponsorship from local businesses will allow us to lower the entry fees making it more accessible to all. Money raised from sponsorship will be used for venue hire, staff fees, trophies, medals, marketing and advertising.
Why support us?
We already have at least 100 competitors who’ve registered their interested in taking part in the festival from as far afield as London! We are dedicated to making this a huge success.
And there are perks for supporting us!
All supporters recieve free tickets to the event. There are also some fabulous advertising opportunities for local businesses including trophy and award sponsorship.
