On July 15th I will be traveling to Guatemala to take part in the first ever Project Somos Photography Service Retreat. This trip is a mixture of all my favorite things: photography, travel and serving women and children. We take for granted the many blessings in our lives (food, shelter, educational opportunities, family support, etc…). I wanted to bring more with me than what my two hands and feet can provide in one week of service. Financial support is critical to the success of Project Somos and has a direct impact on the women and children they serve. There is no donation too small! Please consider giving so you too can be a part of this experience and help women and children in need. Your donation helps protect children, empower mothers and build healthy communities, now and for the future.
Project Somos (click HERE to see website) started in 2011 as an eco-sustainable community to serve the at-risk mothers and children in the surrounding villages. Guatemala is one of the most impoverished countries in the world and this group decided to take action to help. One quote from the website that struck me: “In Guatemala over 5800 children are in orphanages, and many of those children are there because their mothers just don’t have the education, the skills and the support to escape the downward spiral of poverty.” Click HERE for an inspiring video of the work done at Project Somos. Project Somos works to empower at-risk mothers to protect, nurture, and provide for their children. Additional goals are orphan prevention and family preservation. A mother in dire circumstances may see no other option than to put her children into an orphanage…Project Somos wants these moms to know there is another choice and they can help. Our group of photographers will be at Project Somos July 16-22nd. Most of these Guatemalan women have never had a photo of their children/family. One goal of this trip is to provide photographs for them to display in their homes and hopefully give them more motivation to fight the daily fight for their children…there are some powerful implications in this small gift/visual reminder and I’m excited to experience this first hand.
Your donation will have a direct impact on this community and the future for the women and children. Thank you in advance for being a part of this experience!
