We’re opening a Texas style BBQ restaurant this year and would love for you to be involved!
My name is Javier Gomez and I own Jav’s BBQ. I have a dream of opening a BBQ restaurant in my hometown of Anaheim, California. I’ve loved serving my community through private events and weekly farmers’ markets, but I’m ready to bring BBQ to the masses. As Texas style slow smoked BBQ makes its way across the country, I take pride in producing real Texas style BBQ in Southern California. With over 10 years of BBQ’ing, over 1000 feet of butcher paper, gallons of salt, pepper and other spices, burned fingers, and lots of meat, I’ve settled on a recipe that’s unique to California but has its roots in Texas.
I left my corporate job of 8 years to pursue my dream and it’s becoming more real everyday! After over 3 years of markets, catering, and special events, I’m ready to take on the next challenge and serve the best BBQ smoked brisket in Orange County!
The MAKE building is owned by the same group behind The Lab in Costa Mesa and the Packing House in Anaheim, one of the first and most popular communal dining concepts in SoCal. MAKE believes in businesses that create their craft, so besides BBQ, there is a beer tasting room (Unsung Brewery), a wine tasting room (Pali Wines) and an upcoming whiskey tasting room. All of us pour our lives into our product and we share that common thread.
The money we raise here will be used to open the restaurant in Anaheim. We have secured a space at the new MAKE Anaheim building, next to the popular and extremely busy Packing House. The money we raise will be used to hire an architect and contractors, purchase new appliances and furnishings, and create a home for the best BBQ restaurant in the OC! All of the funds will be used to open the restaurant by this summer. We will continue to serve our community through events and farmers markets in the meantime as well as after the restaurant opens.
We have a location!
We have city plans!
We are pending health department approval!
Next comes the fun part: buildout!
It’s also the most expensive part of this, but it means we are close to the finish line and on our way to opening in July, exactly 4 years after Jav’s BBQ was first launched!
We are currently pending our 3rd revision for health department approval. Cross your fingers, this will be the last revision we’ll have to submit!
We’re right on the verge of starting construction and we have a qualified team to help us get through this next stage. Our contractor, architect, and engineers are working around the clock to get health approved and start ASAP. The money we raise will be spent on our kitchen (cooktop, oven, fryer, hood, fridge, holding cabinet, sinks, counters, storage, etc.) so we can also serve a full menu of sides with our BBQ.
