In 2008, whilst studying in cambridge, I was duped by my jazz lecturer who had told the 3rd year vocal students that I was a good double bassist…..2 weeks before their final exams!
They cornered me in a rehearsal room and I didnt have the heart to tell them that I had barely touched one in my life and that Dr Jazz was just using dirty tricks to get himself an upright player for the big band.
They left me a pile of charts and a fortnight to pull it together so I ran to my bass teacher for a crash course. He gave me the tools I needed to get through the gig and I practiced day and night on the orchestras bass.
As soon as I hit the stage with that instrument I fell in love and got very busy!! It seems everyone wanted an upright player and there werent many around, I played in every ensemble and started hitting the clubs with a hot band of young cats.
When i migrated to australia in 2009 I had to kiss that baby goodbye and dream of one day finding my own fine instrument.
After 8 years of incredible musical adventures in Australia I’m ready to get back on the groove train, upskill and invest in a quality double bass that will open up a lot of doors for the next chapter of my journey in music.
I have been working hard on the circuit and saving with the dream of a number of creative projects, artists i would like to accompany and teaching opporrunities to help build a more solid foundation in the music community. I’m still falling short of my target so have decided, with some encouragement, to reach out and crowdfund the rest of the funds to be able to get a well set up, solid body upright with a good pickup and a hard case. This will enable me to fly out, tour interstate and internationally without the fear of baggage handlers destroying my dreams.
To obtain a good quality instrument, necessary accessories and a flight case.
There are no obstacles I cant overcome with this instrument in my hands.
