About Ernie
A little over a year ago, our beloved bushfire sanctuary ‘patriarch’ Ernie, slipped in a thunderstorm and impaled himself on a 40cm branch.
The branch was removed by a veterinarian and a rigorous routine flushing with antimicrobial solution, keeping drainage tube clear and intra-muscular penicillin injections, twice daily, ensued.
The wound healed beautifully over a two month period, however, small splinters were left behind, culminating in a large, inflammatory mass on his rump.
The mass, an internal abscess, was surgically lanced and drained, leaving a 45cm stitched incision wound and drainage tube that needed ongoing cleaning and care. Two surgeries were necessary in order to drain the abscess, yet there is still a small pocket of infection remaining, which requires one more surgical intervention.
Why we need your help
Please help us raise funds to pay Ernie’s veterinary costs ($3000 in total – which includes costs for the vital ‘third stage’ surgical procedure – yet to come).

A year after the original injury – abscess on site of old wound …
(we decided not to include pictures of the original wound because they were a too shocking)
