A Mini Transat to know more about the Oceans
To support participatory ocean research and to allow the founding of sampling kits for citizen research at sea, Germain Kerlevéo, a 34 years old former veterinary, will set sail for Astrolabe Expeditions during the Mini Transat 2017.
The project, A Mini Transat to know more about the Oceans, is an opportunity for Astrolabe Expeditions, thanks to Germain’s participation at the Trans Atlantic race, to raise general public awareness on the issues related to the protection of the Ocean, while giving a spotlight to participatory sciences. A practice that allows researchers to benefit from more important data and for citizen to the knowledge of the Ocean, by actively engaging into scientific research.
We want to fund the creation of research kits to study coral health, marine currents and their impact on climate change, or to discover new species of plankton. The kits you will fund will equip sailing boats around the world to collect scientific data in 2017. Germain’s boat will also be equipped with sensors for the Mini Transat, in order to collect data that will serve scientific programs.
Germain will sail for Astrolabe Expeditions. More than a sporting adventure, it is a social adventure for which we propose you to mobilize with us!
Created in 2014, the association/NGO implements citizen research programs in collaboration with scientific institutions and collaborative research groups in order to make citizens contribute to science.
Today in a process of scaling up, Astrolabe Expeditions is counting on this project to be able to launch the production of these measurement kits and equip a maximum of sailing boats.
