The Cine-theatre will transform The Old Paddling Pool on Millfields park will into an open air cinema and theatre for a day to create a space for the entire community to enjoy.
On June 10th The Old Paddling Pool will be transformed into an open air cinema and theatre. The Cine-Theatre is envisaged as an installation which will transform the site of the Old Paddling Pool at Millfields Park into a dual function pop-up; a cinema and open air theatre for, a day using wood pallets and recycled materials. The Old Paddling pool, which has been disused for several years, already has an amphitheatre like quality which lends itself to the creation of a stage. It is intended to make a place that will play host to the work of local filmmakers and performers, telling stories of Hackney lives and be somewhere the diverse, Clapton community can engage in a shared experience. The Cine -Theatre at the Old Paddling Pool will be a test-bed project for a process that could be repeated on this site and various sites across London. Over the course of a day visitors will be invited to take part in a Community Build to create the theatre.
What we’ll deliver:
Why it’s a great idea:
We hope this will be an engaging, informative and fun day which engages large sections of a diverse community. We want not just to share the end result with the community but to work with the community to develop the theatre and the stories which are told. As we lead up to the day we will hold a series of design workshops in which we will share our design process. This will be open to the community and be an opportunity for people to learn about architecture and building and get involved with the build. This project will provide a platform for local filmmakers and hopefully bring theatre to a wide audience.
