For the past ten years Remedios has raised and sold pigs, as well as bought and sold vegetables to villagers in her area. She is forty-two years old and married with two school-aged children. Her husband is a farmer.
To boost her earnings and improve her family’s quality of life, she joined Kiva’s field partner CEVI. She has applied for an 18,000 PHP loan to buy a variety of vegetables such as eggplant, cabbages, squash, okra, onions and garlic. Selling these at a profit will mean an increase in her income, and so she will be able to gradually retire her loan obligation.
Remedios is thankful for the loan and determined to manage it successfully so she can continue to support the education of her children.
