GlycoPure, Inc. is a development-stage, Maryland-based C-Corporation established to develop and commercialize a novel process for producing superior quality glucosamine, and related products, at a significant cost advantage and in an environmentally safe manner. This process is based on proprietary technology that the Company has licensed from The Johns Hopkins University. This technology is centered on a genetically-modified bacterium which produces pure forms of glucosamine and N-acetylglucosamine from chitin-containing materials. The glucosamine can be reacted with a variety of acids to form the products common in the market (i.e. GlcHCl).
Glucosamine (Glc, C6H13NO5) is a common amino monosaccharide and a prominent precursor in the biochemical synthesis of glycosaminoglycans, glycoproteins and glycolipids. Glucosamine is part of the structure of the polysaccharides chitosan and chitin, which compose the exoskeletons of crustaceans and other arthropods, cell walls in fungi and many higher organisms. Glucosamine is one of the most abundant monosaccharides. It is produced commercially by the hydrolysis of chitin from shellfish processing wastes or more recently from the recovered fungal mycelia used in citric acid production.
Pat Condon has been in the chitin/chitosan business for 14 years. He designed, built, and operated the largest chitosan manufacturing facility in the United States. He also co-designed and piloted a unique method of converting shrimp shell to chitin in a continuous system with dramatic reductions in the consumption of chemicals and energy. The front half of that system is integral to this new biological process.
Jay Sun is owner of SUNDA, Inc., an import/export firm. He has spent fifteen years with Mr. Condon engaged in transactions and negotiations with the largest Chinese chitosan/glucosamine companies. Jay provides interim financial oversight and will become active in the Company as VP of Information Technology.
Patrick Bowe has over 15 years experience in the global seafood, aquaculture, and feed industries; and has extensive global experience coordinating sourcing partnerships with shrimp processors in Brazil, China, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Panama, Thailand, and Vietnam. Pat was responsible for the strategic development and execution of Darden Restaurant’s $200 million shrimp-sourcing and importing program. He maintains global contacts with fish and shrimp feed producers.
