OUR NICU JOURNEY: A BEAUTIFUL JOURNAL FOR BABIES IN THE NICU
Having a baby in the NICU is a scary experience, but one NICU nurse is trying to make it just a little bit easier.
Trish Ringley has been a neonatal intensive care nurse for the past 20 years, and today she’s asking for help to get a beautiful new NICU journal published. The journal, titled “Our NICU Journey” launched on Kickstarter April 24th, and she’s seeking to raise $6,000 in order to cover the costs of designing and printing the book.
Writing and journaling are important coping tools for any new parent, but particularly for NICU parents who are trying to cope with the NICU’s complicated routines, confusing terminology and intense emotional strain.
While parents of healthy newborns have hundreds of choices when it comes to baby journals, it’s extremely challenging for NICU parents to find high-quality, NICU-specific journals. Trish set out to change that.
She combined her nursing experience with the input of preemie moms and nurses to craft a journal which gives parents exactly what they want – space to track daily NICU activities, process their emotions, display photos of their baby, and much more. The journal will be printed as a 6×9 inch full-color softcover book adorned with comforting illustrations and inspiring quotes.
When asked about why she’s using Kickstarter, Trish explained:
“The NICU is so stressful for parents – they deserve all the support they can get. They deserve a comforting journal designed specifically for their unique experience, one which helps them feel empowered and inspired. A cheap, bland, poorly designed journal just won’t accomplish those goals.
Professionally designing and printing a journal is expensive. So Kickstarter just makes sense – backers can preview the journal, support the publication, donate journals to NICU parents, and get some cool rewards of their own. They can even have their own baby’s name added to the artwork in the journal!
With Kickstarter, we can have some fun by inviting the whole community to participate and support NICU families by making this journal a reality.”
The Kickstarter offers a wide variety of rewards for backers, including care packages, custom preemie jewelry, even contributing to the final artwork of the journal. Additionally, journals can be donated to NICUs or to NICU non-profit organizations who will donate the new journals to new parents.
Once all of the rewards have been delivered, Trish intends to make Our NICU Journey available for purchase at her online NICU store Every Tiny Thing.
The project runs through May 24, 2017. To learn more, visit
