My Food Stamps Cookbook What to eat when you broke & wanna be healthy? Poverty doesn’t have to kill you! This cookbook will help you use food (stamps) to heal!

iCrowdNewswire - Apr 27, 2017

About this project

Wondering how to eat well when your money and time is tight?

i’m Baby Momma Rachel and as a radical nutritionist, a doula, and as the founder of the Brooklyn yoga studio Hip Dhamma, I am overjoyed to share my unreleased book “My Food Stamps Cookbook” on Kickstarter!!

With your support I know this book will change lives in communities that are facing poverty, trauma and dis-ease (mostly food choice related).

Yes! I am talking about our black community and people of color in America who make up 40% of food stamp recipients! The other known percentage, 40%, is made up of white people who will also greatly benefit from ending dis-ease through food.

My Food Stamps Cookbook is THE solution to having a tiny budget while looking for something healthy to eat.

Before I break down my fundraising goal to get this book published, I want to let you know how this all started…I am Harvard grad raised on a standard American diet – my personal journey with food stamps began after I could not find a job as a recent graduate (my hustle of gogo dancing, and braiding hair didn’t add up!) but I still needed to eat.

And with $200 a month on my EBT card it was either fast food or learn how to eat strategically. I needed energy to try to push through the challenging financial time while recovering from traumatic experiences (that we know often happen in our communities) so the greasy cheap meals that get marketed to folk in the hood were NOT gonna work.

I decided to learn everything I could about eating to heal and have maximum energy so I can do what looked impossible.

My new approach to food seriously healed my life and I was able to transition into being a business owner of a yoga studio in Brooklyn. Working with the black and brown community helped me to see I wasn’t the only one who needed help. I even started doing nutrition workshops in the Projects of New York and I saw how these kid’s lives changed with a few simple lessons.

Since I first started writing in 2009 I keep getting asked “When can I get a copy of your food stamps cookbook?? I’m broke and I really need to know what to eat!” Well here it is! This is the first chance my book is available for preorder. You will see some fast action bonuses and discounts that are only available for the next 30 days.

Oh and by the way, ALL the recipes are reflective of the signature foods consumed by MANY ethnic communities in the US. You won’t find Jamaican, Vietnamese, Mexican, Indian, Dominican, Indigena and more mixed like this anywhere else. Bet.

This book is such a valuable resource but it needs funding to get it edited, formatted, the book cover designed, printed, and setup on ebook platforms. I have even included 20 bay area workshops (cause sometimes books sit on the shelf!) for low income at risk communities.

I am asking for your help to get FUNDED to publish this cookbook.

The $25,000 Goal covers:

  • Self publishing & printing
  • Editor
  • Formatting
  • Cover Design
  • Ebook setup
  • 20 Bay Area Workshops
  • 1 Free Community Dinner (Free to low income communities in the SF Bay area)

This is ALL or nothing fundraising so I am asking you to support my goal of $25,000 with a donation that works for your budget and share on social media!

But there are so many people to reach I have 3 stretch goals!

How far will we go? Depends on how much support I can get from you! I hope my perks (mainly the bomb ass cookbook) will rock your world so we lift as we climb and spread the food stamp cookbook revolution. Cheers to being part of the personal healing – a radical act in this crazy Trump era!

Namaste and thanks for your support!

Risks and challenges

The main risks of getting a book published is something going wrong with support services like the printer etc. I am planning to avoid the risk by using self publishing company with a stellar record of doing their job well.

I am prepared to overcome any challenges by keeping a strong support system around me – so my team and I can tackle any logistical problem that comes up!
