#HelenaAuroraRange
The Helena Aurora Range (Bungalbin) is a ‘banded ironstone’ range that lies at the heart of Western Australia’s outback. It is a sanctuary for many birds, reptiles, mammals and plants, some of which you can’t find anywhere else on earth.
We have a vision to allow everyone the opportunity to experience this incredible part of the world, and to achieve this we’re working to help create a wonderful new national park.
But this vision is under threat.
Right now the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is finalising its assessment report on a proposal to mine this beautiful and unique place.
Places such as the Helena Aurora Range provide people from all walks of life the opportunity to get outdoors, experience the best of Western Australia’s outback and really get a sense of just how vast this great land is.
So a partnership to realise this vision has been formed. The Wilderness Society, Birdlife Australia, the WA Wildflower Society and the Helena and Aurora Range Advocates have joined together to build a community campaign for the range.
We’re not alone in wanting this.
Scientists have been calling for the protection of this range since 1980.
Senior Traditional Owners are also calling for the range to be protected.
And in the last twelve months alone the campaign has received massive support from the community, with over 1400 people making submissions to the EPA opposing mining, but we’re not quite there yet.
This landmark campaign is now reaching its final stages. As we await the advice of the EPA, it is now time to call upon the newly elected WA State Government to act to create a new National Park for the Range.
To achieve this we need the resources to increase public awareness, support and momentum to get the new Park across the line.
An extremely kind donor is proud to partner with us by matching every donation made to this page up to a total of $5000.
So donate now, have your impact doubled, and help create a wonderful new Helena Aurora Range (Bungalbin) National Park – under the management of its Traditional Owners, the Kapurn people.
Why donate?
With so many of WA’s other outstanding ‘banded ironstone’ ranges gone forever due to mining, it is time to right the balance and protect this exceptional example for future generations.
Helena Aurora Range is considered to have the highest conservation value among the Banded Iron Formation (BIF) ranges in the central Yilgarn region of Western Australia. It is pristine and yet is under imminent threat from mining interests.
The Helena Aurora Range is simply too magnificent to be left unrecognised. It’s now time to secure its future once and for all.
Help create the new #HelenaAuroraRange national park.
Your donation will help the campaign partners to:
- Run a targeted digital engagement campaign aiming to grow community support and action to call on the new State Government to protect the Range as a National Park.
- Take supporters and decision makers to the Range for them to experience its magnificence first hand.
- Produce a short film to assist campaign partners to run on- ground community events to raise awareness of the Range more broadly.
Donate now and help create a National Park
The first $5,000 donated through this page will be matched, dollar for dollar.
We’d also like to invite everyone who donates to attend a future camping trip to the Range, register your interest here.
